Colorado Success
« on: September 21, 2009, 06:23:53 AM »
Well I just got back from an elk hunting trip to Colorado this past weekend with good results. I got a 6 x 6 bull and my son and dad both harvested cows. We had a great time and great results with the Sidekick. Both my son and I are using the Sidekick while my dad has a Winchester X-150.
We were hunting up a valley and the bull I got was on one side bugling with another on the other side. This kept him distracted enough that I was able to get within 65 yards of him before I fired. Talk about a rush to be within that close when they are in full bugle that is echoing throughout the valley. He was tearing up the scrub brush and all I could see at first was just tops of trees getting torn up. Finally I was able to get close enough to see the antler tips then it was just a matter of waiting until he offered a clear shot. The bullet double lunged him and came to rest just under the hide of the opposite shoulder. I was using 80 grains of Blackhorn powder and 460 grain No-Excuses. I also have the MU breech plug. Thanks Nick for a great addition to a great gun.

Congratulations to you all, Mike! 8)

I know the rush you speak of, it is really wild when they are inside of 30 yards, or closer.

Thanks for the report and pic.

Can you post a pic of the bullet? Those full bore conicals do a great job, and don't need a lot of powder to get it done either.
