1911 replacement sights???
« on: December 18, 2010, 10:37:11 AM »
I would like to take my norinco 1911a1 to the next level.

My norinco 1911a1 has the orginal low G.I. 1911 sights on it.  I'm wondering what my options are in replacing the front sight to a higher one and adding an adjustable rear sight without doing any machining.  Is it possible?  Or can i have just the higher sights with no adjustable rear sight.  What sights do you recommend?  Do they come in a kit together so they will match each other.

On my norinco also is there a beaver tail grip safety where i can still use the orginal hammer? Or is it normal to install a commander style hammer with the larger beaver tail grip safety?

I like either Novaks or Heinie "Straight 8" sights.  I doubt they could be fitted to your gun without machine work, but you can search for the mfg's websites and see.

I don't think there is a true beavertail safety that will fit your hammer.  I know the high rise Wilson's require a commander style hammer (Nastoff style hammers work with these...which is what the Colt XSE series come with).  There is a safety called a duckbill, which is not so upswept as the true beavertail that might work.

I have had Slant Pros added to my weapons from day one---they all have required machineing to accomplish this.
You might find it beneficial to consult some of the boys on tools and tecniques for the Norinco---this is a different steel and can eat up tools.

I got to thinking that you might change your hammer so I thought I would throw up these links too.
These hammer/trigger groups or a matched hammer and sear from some place like Brownell's would go a long way toward getting a crisp trigger pull if you do change your hammer.
