Marlin Barrel Change
« on: October 09, 2009, 02:14:18 PM »
Howdy! I have a 1894 Marlin in .44 mag. I have been considering changing the barrel and converting it to .45 colt. Other than the barrel, what else would need to be changed? Will the 44 carrier and bolt work?

I believe the Marlin M1894 breech blocks are stamped 44/45, meaning they are compatible with both .44 Magnum and .45 Colt cartridges.

The existing cartridge carrier should work for both cartridges.  Have you considered having your .44 barrel re-bored and re-rifled to .45 Colt?  It may be easier and cheaper than trying to find a .45 Colt barrel and having it fitted.

Check Numrich for barrels. Can be really cheap.

Thanks for the information. I have found a barrel at Numrich and may give it a try.
