Buying an M1 Garand..What features to look for.

I'm looking at Garands and need help with pickinig out one from all the possible iterations and versions. I see SA, IH and H&R versions, and Dutch barrels, Circle-P on stocks. Can anyone help me sort out all this? Or direct me to a web page with info? I'm not looking for a collection piece but an everyday reliable and accurate shooter. Hope I'm not beating the proverbial dead horse here. Thanks everyone!

well h&r made them for wwII so they should know how to by now!
on old garands try to have all #s match.
