Rust Removal for Nickel Barrel?
« on: January 12, 2011, 10:43:45 AM »
Howdy gents. I have a CVA Optima Pro with the fluted nickel barrel. I didn't hunt with it this year because I missed our blackpowder season to go elk hunting. I got it out this afternoon and noticed there is some rust in and around the breech plug area. I cleaned it with some Hoppe's and oiled it but I was wondering what I could do, if anything, to remove the rust. Fortunately it isn't in the rifled portion of the barrel itself.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Also, does anybody know where to get a thumbhole stock for it. I can't find them anywhere.

Flitz polishing compound with a bit of scrubbing will get it off.

Ive applied Dyna Tek Gun Shield to almost all my muzzle loaders and it seals off and protects against rust - corrosion.

I didn't even think about Flitz. Thanks for the tip. Where do you get the Dyna Tek?
