Wisconsin Wild Pigs

Hi, i doing research on where i can find some wild pigs in Wisconsin. i am hoping to hunt in late winter/early spring. What county/area should i start looking? thanks!

Thanks! I will look through everything and start doing some scouting. Crawford county looks like a good way to start, since it is close to me and there appears to be a lot of activity in the the area.

Wow! I didn't know that they were that widespread across the state.  Anyone have any numbers of how many there are?

I think you would have to call a DNR office for the respective county, then they may have a number count for the whole state. I do intend to call my local DNR office and I will post what they tell me.

comin' back from hunting Friday night right at dusk, and I see what I thought were two fawns feeding in a picked corn field. Turns out they were hogs. Now I know sometimes farmers pasture pigs in picked grain fields, but these hogs looked nuttin' like the domestic hogs I'm used to seeing.....they had the long hair and the narrow hind quarters of ferals. This was in Juneau County. I stopped the truck to get a look at them with binocs and they took off for the woods and were gone.

That sounds great!!!! I called my local DNR and the man I need to talk to is out of the office till monday. So I will wait for his call and I will post what he says about the numbers of feral hogs.

Anyone interested in hunting might want to do some scouting in Western Clark county.

The several cases of TB on pig farms last year near Greenwood were confirmed to be caused by interaction with wild pigs.

There have been many sightings between Rock Dam and Greenwood.

not yet. I have spent most of my timme lately hunting.......................... for a new job! My company closed it's doors in late Novemeber! I have had a lot of interviews, so hopefully i will be fully employed soon, then i will continue my quest for the pig!

Have you heard of a Johnson's Creek? Is that near Crawford ? I read  somewhere, that they are along that Creek.

I saw a dead wild pig on my way back from salmon fishing in Kewuanee, WI this summer.  I believe it was at MM 129 just west of Wausua in Hwy 29.

That sounds about right.  mile marker 129 is west of Abbotsford near Curtiss.  About 5 miles south of there a pig farm had several cases of swine tuberculosis which the DNR said was contracted from wild pigs.
