Encore vs. H&R
« on: September 27, 2009, 11:46:24 AM »
I know a lot of people have discussed this topic before, but it seems everyone goes off on a tangent of some sort.  Please stick to my following questions.
1) Based on the encore, handi, and cva apex, which gun is going to be the most accurate out of the box? I am not interested in the feel of the rifle or price, just the accuracy.

2) I know the encore has a lot of easy aftermarker additions that can be done to it (trigger job, different forends, hinge pins, etc.), I also know the encore can be made extremely accurate with these additions. Is there any aftermarket additions that can be made to make the handi or apex more accurate? Again, I love single shot rifles...I am only interested in extreme accuracy.

Thank you guys for the help...

As to question #1
I don't have an answer for this, but will say I like Encores in both pistol and rifle configuration. I do have several and they are all accurate with my reloads. I do not like the looks of the other two. They may be as good or even better than the Encore. But the Encore is MY personal preference.

Question #2
The Encore can shoot accurate without buying any after market parks. I know this from personal experience. For my Encores load development is the key to accuracy, not after market parts.

As for after market parts for the other two choices I have no idea.

Hard to beat a Handi Rifle for overall value, especially if you plan to stick to one caliber.  I still prefer the Encore (and Contender).

However, if H&R were to offer the heavy-barreled .308 "Ultra Varmit" in stainless with a laminated thumbhole stock......hmmm.

The link posted above should answer a lot of your questions.

I pick and use the Encore over any other single shot change barrels systems even the ones you didn’t list, plus it really doesn’t compare since the Encore uses pistol barrels and the others don’t.

I owned a used Handi  in 243 Winchester for about 2 weeks and returned it for a full refund, and will never buy another one.  I didn’t like the heavy feel of the barrel, it ejected cases and overall looks.  At this time I already owned the Encore and thought the cheap priced Handi would be worth a try, I was wrong.

I wouldn’t own a CVA in anything free or otherwise.  I owned a 45 caliber CVA Kentucky rifle years ago from a kit, but I sold it, because I never used it.

Hey what happened to the Knight KP1 (the fix all for every Encore problem)?

From the experience I have had with T/C's and a couple NEF Handi Rifles I would have to say T/C no question.

I own both so IMHO T/C all the way.while the handi shoots if you get a good one if not and you like to tinker and lots of time to play with it and work up loads ect get a handi.their QC is iffy at best.

I haven't had a bad encore barrel yet.ZERO problems.as they say you get what you pay for.

I know zero about after market stuff for T/C.if it costs a extra 50.00 for a T/C barrel so be it.

I've had Handis, Encores and Contenders. While the Handis were OK they weren't just what I was looking for in terms of accuracy and overall looks. I still own two Contenders and they are all I could want for both the reasons mentioned above. The only reason I sold my Encore was hard times. Just my two cents worth.
