Deer season looms!!!
« on: September 30, 2009, 01:05:45 PM »
You fellas' what shoot sticks at the deer are already at it I guess.  I'm waiting impatiently for boom boom season.  Saw a herd of about 25 does the other evening, no bucks.  Couldn't be sure on the does, they wouldn't stand still!  Should be close on the count though.  If I'da had my 45-70, and it was legal season, I mighta got several with one shot!  When the season is on, I probably will be alone with the squirrils.

From the look of things right now all my stands are showing good signs. I see plenty of deer crossing the roads around my area. I took some pears back to a stand Tuesday evening and dropped a few along the trail. Today I walked about 100 yards on the trail and all the pears that were dropped had been eaten with deer tracks over my old foot prints. This one paticular stand I want to sit with my grandson (5 years old) so I'm going to put some feed out for a few more days. I want him to see some deer this year if he will sit still long enough. ;D

Cannon,
I took my 6yr. old last year to a wooden box stand.  I told him he couldn't talk on the way in, and he couldn't move in the stand or it would make noise and scare the deer.  About an hour and a half in the stand and I noticed he was very silently, crying.  He peed his pants trying not to move or make noise.  I've felt bad about it ever since.

The next day, we did manage to get a doe.

My grandson wiggles like jello on a fishing boat in a wind storm. When we go to the woods he loves to walk and look or ride the 4 wheeler and scout. It's a whole other ball game when it comes to sitting in a stand. I let him sit with me a few times last year late in the season just to see how it would go. He doe's good for about 30 minutes but gets restless after that. I think I got the moving covered right now it's the noise part thats going to be tough to break.

Been out with the bow. Have seen several deer (none in bow range, you know between 50 and 75 yards, wishing for my rifle). Looking forward to the bang bang season. Can't wait really.  :'(
