Right vs "Privilege"...
« on: September 26, 2009, 05:42:51 PM »
maybe I'm just too young, or haven't paid enough attention....but, when did it become a "privilege" to carry a gun?

noticed that this language portraying carry as a "privilege" is pretty much just accepted by most gun owners...  last time I checked, the U.S. Constitution said it is a right.

what do you say...?

'Owning' a gun is a right - that is, our 'right' to own a gun is God given (Constitution) which protects this right from governmental interference or infringement.  'Carrying' a gun is just a means of transporting it with you as you go about your life.  Neither activity should become a 'priviledge' granted by any licensing authority.

Keep and bear, pretty simple language. It would seem to me that in the preceeding 200 plus years if our founders had not intended for us to both keep and bear our firearms we would have long ago been over this discussion.

Convicted felons routinely lose rights and I see no reason why they should not lose the right to own and carry weapons. However stand up citizens should not be denied the God given, self evident, right to defend themselves.

A gun gives a weak person the ability to fend off a strong person, few other tools have this ability. The fact that guns are cheap and plentyful guarantees that all will be able to choose one for their own defense.

Those who choose to disarm us need to be held culpable in every instance that a person is injured by another in the commision of a crime. A person who is weak is no more deserving of a beating than someone who is physically fit. The fact that you live in a gated community, with private security hired for ellevated security, is little comfort to a mother living in poverty, wondering when the next noise she hears will be her ex-husband coming through the door to kill her. The fact you can't afford to hire someone to protect you should not leave you vulnerable to attack.

Amendment 2 - Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"

This is one of the strongest worded civil rights we have. The framers were crystal clear that owning and baearing arms is a right of the people. People being individual persons. They were also crystal clear with this amendment, that "the people" and Militia's are a "right" as well. There's no question that owning arms and the ability to form a militia are inteneded to support the concept that if we get tired of our government, we can chanqe it and if it means using force, we "the people" have the right to take our government back.

The Liberals hate this.

To say that gun ownership is a privilege (that privilege being conveyed to us by the nanny state, if it so desires), is to say that we have given control of our own bodies, and what that body does, over the to the government to decide for us because they are smart and we are not, and we must be controlled in our own best interest.  >:(

The liberals are not really liberal; they would enslave us! It is really socialism, a disproved theory of Marx's utopia.

The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson
