Remington 597 Tech Target
« on: August 12, 2009, 01:53:12 AM »
So for the past few months I have been wanting to add a bull barrel and thumb hole stock to my 10/22. I happen to go into Dicks Sporting goods and wandered into the "lodge" when I seen this 22lr.

When I picked it up it fit perfect, Had to have it and the price was $329. Hum, it was going to cost me more just for a barrel and stock for the 10/22.
The trigger was heavy, but after a little stone work to it, it is a lot smoother. Might have to look into the VQ hammer.
I put a cheap Wally World Center Point Scope on it, A bipod and after putting almost a 1000 rounds threw it, I have to say I love it.
Here is a my target from right of the box
This was fired at 25 meters from a rest, cant wait to see what it does at 100yards!
Upper left - first 10 shot string fired with Winchester XPert HV
bottom left - Federal Lighting
upper right - Wolf Match Target
bottom right - Eley Standard

I will say that I have fired a lot of different brands of ammo and for the most part the cheap/bulk ammo does ok, It really like's the Wolf and Eley for 1/2" raged holes at 25m.
I can tell when then actions is getting to dirty, I start to have FTE problems. But that is easily fixed by a quick cleaning with some CLP and it is good to go!
From everything I have read, Remington has solved there feed problems regarding the mag on the 597's. I have also read that these tech targets sometimes come with a bum barrel but if you contact them, they have you shipped it back to them and they put a new barrel on it.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
