Howdy,
I have 2 100rnd plastic bags of 225 gr .323 dia, bullets and wonder if anyone knows who made them. They are nearly cylindrical with a large amount of exposed lead and round nose w/ a small flat point (1-2 MM) and  a cupped base. The bag is approx. 2.5" wide x 3.2" long with an open top and a folded over buckskin colored light wt. cardboard fold over top with a fairly large staple on either end and the .323/225 gr. ink stamped on one side. If I had to take wild guess I would say maybe Herters. The shoot well in my sporty BNZ 8x57 w/ 47 gr H-414, I know this is a light load but they look like won't take a whole lot of vel. before coming apart. I will use them on an Alces Virginius (?SP)  in a couple of weeks, will let you know. Thanks-Muddy

The bullets sound like they might be Herters, but all mine came in blue boxes wiht yellow trim.

I wonder if they weren't made for the 8mm Rem Mag???

Have you miked these bullets? They might be .318 for the older mauser sporters. 225 grains was a fairly popular in the early loadings. Herters did a lot of weird stuff in their heyday as far as sales of material went. I'd mike them for sure if you havn't done that yet.

Howdy, The bullets mike .3228 at the base, are 1.15"  long and the exposed lead is .170" in length. The very blunt roundnose, lots of exposed lead and the cupped base all exclude the idea that they were designed for the 8 mag. (came out in 1977)  I have been loading since the mid 60's and have never seen another cupped base heavy for caliber rifle bullet and the only other cupped base one I can think of were Remington 150gr 35 Rem. factory bullets, I have also never seen a similar factory package. -Muddy
