Cleaning the bore without using a brush? - Wipe-Out?

I have a new Tikka T3 Hunter, and the manual says not to use a brush in the bore.   Anyone used Sharp Shooter Wipe-Out brushless foaming bore cleaning solvent?   Some guys have raved about it.    Foam in the bore, let it set an hour, then patch it out (repeat if needed).    Any comment about this product, not using brushes, or a similar product?

I have tried the foam stuff and it works OK but is MESSY and gets down into the action. It's more trouble to clean out than barrel cleaning is for me.


I pretty much never use brushes. I use mostly just patches on a jag. I use Barnes CR-10 as a chemical copper remover and Hoppe's #9 or some other carbon remover to take out the carbon build up as well tho CR-10 does a pretty good job at that also. I also use JB Bore Paste a very mild abrasive with helps to smooth the barrel while removing copper and other crud. Between the two I feel no need for brushes.

Any of the foaming cleaners can be used without a mess by applying it from the chamber instead of the muzzle using a little tubing to seal against the end of the chamber or shoulder depending on the chambering and a drink bottle over the muzzle to catch any overflow, once you get experienced on how much button time to use, you won't waste any tho, I've been using Wipeout for 5 yrs, it's good stuff, but hard to find, ALL of the other foaming cleaners are all made by Milfoam which is used by militarys worldwide.

I also have used WipeOut and love it.  I just put a rag in the chamber, as a plug,  and some news paper under the muzzle to catch any excess foam.

I use Wipeout on my blackpowder flinter. Since I've started using that, I just don't do the soap 'n water any more. Wipeout is a bit sloppier than just using a product like Butch's....but for Black powder, it's way easier than the 'ol soap 'n water routine. Plus, IMHO I think Wipeout does a better job.

For my other guns I still use a brush. Just doesn't seem right unless I splatter some cleaner on the wall.

I have used both wipeout and gunslick
I spray from the chamber end

let soak
then put a few paper towels on the garage floor, then point barrel at it, muzzle down
then flush out with brake cleaner
if there's blue, it's copper
reapply and repeat
run a few tight jags through the barrel from the chamber
then a very light coat of FP-10 on a jag
