Decided to keep my 20ga. USH factory
« on: September 28, 2009, 02:32:02 AM »
Hi All. I was goin to do something different on my USH, add open shotgun sight, then need strait comb stock. Decided not to. After some careful thought, figured best to keep it just the way it is. And also goin to shoot it with sabot ammunition. This is the way its designed to shoot, guess just had to come to terms with the fact of buyin ammo that cost $12.oo - $15.oo or more for 5 rounds. When you stop to figure what our $1.oo is really worth right now, it helps when you part company with that money to buy the technology invested into sabot slugs.  :-\  I'll give ya a range report. Have a good one! scout4<><

Good thinking.  My gunsmith, a close and dear friend, is always bitching about having to repair guns when people modify them to do other than what they were designed to do.  Every year he gets in five or six rifled shotguns after the deer season for him to clean the lead out from using Foster slugs in them.  He can never figure out why people will spend good money on a rifled slug gun and go cheap on ammunition.

He should be happy they do it, puts money in his pocket.

You should meet him. He is from the old country and loves guns about as much as most people do their children. He almost had a stroke when he found out I used epoxy to mount sights on a 12 gauge.

Most Remington Buckhammers and the Hasting slugs can be had for under $10 per 5 and they work as good as any of the 15-$20 stuff. Kurt

12 and 20 gauge Rem Skuggers are $9 for 15 at many Walmarts. The 20 can be tougher to find.

Yes I have used a rifled barrel shotgun.  I really don’t see much difference between the smooth bores and the money burners at less than 100 yds.  Even with a center fire rifle I won’t take a shot over 100 yards and never shoot at a running deer.

I like old school attitude, This the only rifled slug shooter I've had, really just kinda learnin about it. Only other real slug gun I had was .410 I had made into a slug gun. Some of the Guy's here saw photo's of it an target I shot with it. That was good gun! scout4<><

Hope you still have the 410. Sounds like a handy thing to have around.
