For me there is no single source of broad, even coverage. I typically pick both left and right leaning newspapers available via the Web. Wall Street Journal and USA Today is a good balance. To me, this means there is a niche for a single publication that covers both sides fairly.

I've just about given up on anything national.
They all put a flavored tilt on anything they report.

Like you said you need to take a sampling and then figure out where the truth lies.
The age of information can be a bit overwhelming at times.

And in the end you never really know anyhow. :'(

lack of coverage on a subject means look out , attacks on a person means they worry the other side . Other than that nothing is 100%

IMO:  No news organization gives even unbiased news coverage.  One has to dig for the real story and the real truth.

Investors Business Daily.  The paper has great writers: Walter Williams, Larry Elder, Michele Malkin and more.  A quick summary is given on front and second page.  The back pages contain good editiorials which I believe those here could support.

Just the answers here suggest why the print newspapers are in trouble. They have not adapted to the general news environment.

It would be hard for the papers to give instant up dates seeing how the only print once or twice a day . They will go the way of the buggie whip .

What's the most reliable news source in terms of veracity and even coverage of political issues?

I normally watch the local network affiliate for local news and weather and then turn off the TV and get my news on the WWW.
For political stuff, I read News with Views, Lew Rockwell.com, and Email alerts from JBS (John Birch Society),  and others. Anything political shown on the networks will be slanted to the left or right.IMHOP
