Remington 700 LSS mountain rifle.
« on: October 08, 2003, 07:45:23 AM »
My son has a Rem 700 LSS mountain rifle with the standard dropbox.  He would rather have a clip.  I tend to be a clip fan also, although I am sure there are varied opinions on this.  Here is the question though.  Is there a way to replace the dropbox with a clip?  Who makes it and what do they cost?

Thanks,
Long

Remington produces a DBM(detachable box magazine) version of the m700 and the mountain rifle is a M700 with a light weight barrel.  They don't seem to list anything but long actions as of now, but I'm pretty sure they did catalog a short action.  Parts should still be available.  Try remeingtons factory service or Brownells who also carry remington parts.  You would need the entire floorplate/magazine assembly..  It will be a bit heavier than the alloy setup that's there now.  Also will probably be a bit pricey...  I picked up a used one not long ago and used it as bottom metal on a reserrected M721 rebarreled as a 270..
