Hand washing for the flu season
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:30:12 AM »
I learned a few good things about hand washing from people who know contagion pretty well:

When you wash your hands, use a deodorant soap or antibacterial soap, and lather your hands at least 20 seconds before rinsing them. That's what it takes to clobber the germs most effectively.

Also, you can get little bottles of Purell hand sanitizer. It's mostly alcohol.
Safety first

Questor.  I volunteer at an elementary school as a reading instructor working with second grade students.  One of the first things I attempt to teach them is to keep their fingers out of their eyes, nose and mouth, cover their mouth when they sneeze or cough and to wash their hand regularly.  We keep a large bottle of hand sanitizer on a table near the door, each time they go to the restroom they are told to wash before leaving and we make them use the hand sanitizer upon returning.

I have started carrying a small bottle of sanitizer in my truck and one in my pocket. (The one for the pocket looks like a pen)  I do this because I also belong to a couple of fraternal organizations that meet regularly, everyone wants to shake hands when you come in and again when you leave, I carry the sanitizer because old men are as bad, or maybe worst than children about putting their hands in questionable places then wanted to shake your hand. ;D ;D

It may sound like I am overreacting, but with Swine Flu it’s a good precautionary measure. And don't forget to get the shots.

We lost a young lady from a nearby town last week to swine flu.

The latest I'm hearing about H1N1is that it's well into the schools and not as dangerous as once thought, except for people who are dealing with other serious medical issues. People are still considered contagious if they're running a fever. Its' always wise to practice good hygeine, but to think you can avoid being exposed to something like this is unrealistic, except for the few of you on here who are totally self-sufficient and live off the land.

I've carried hand sanitizer in my tackle box, truck, etc. for close to 10 years because it's waterless and also does a good job of removing fish guts and deer blood.
