Why would the Government go to all the expense to do this? There is a long line of volunteers to do this themselves at their own expense, no charge to the government, them  being us!  :)

In comparing the second part of the film clip from the link that Carronader posted, (that shows a "modern" gun crew working a 6-inch gun on the HMS Champion) with the picture that T&M posted of the USS Kearsarge crew manning a Dahlgren shell gun, (at least as far as the method of bringing up ammunition from the magazine goes) I guess the Frenchman, Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr's proverb "The more things change, the more they remain the same," actually (kind-a) makes sense.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

John Paul Jones is/was a kinsman of mine. ;D  His surname is Duff from the House of Duff, from which Clan Macduff descends. He was a patriot; not a pirate but that depends upon which side of the bread your butter is on. ;) Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, et al were "Terrorists". ::)

Pathe News was shown in movie theatres           propoganda for the sheeple consumption   most of these clips will be staged (light loads )   not all but heavily censored.  Couldn't have gunner losing toes you know...........would spoil the show  ;D
