Local gun shop has a used 40 Cal. Kal-Tec for $250.00. Why were they discontinued??

I've heard a lot of people say that the P-40 was discontinued due to low sales because of recoil.
This is just gun store talk, so take from it what you will.
I have a P-11 (almost identical gun in 9mm) and even that has pretty sharp recoil and muzzle rise.
They seem to have a following on the Kel-Tec websites.  I would like to track one down in the future to see if the recoil is managable.  I think you could get your money back selling it if you don't like it.

I'm not recoil shy. My concern would be that loooooong trigger pull !! I heard you can have those triggers worked on?? Also I'm looking for something fairly light to carry inside a boot. Right now I'm carrying in my boot a Colt .380 Mustang. Way to nice of a gun to risk loseing somehow?? Not to mention what there selling for!!!

I wouldn't want to risk losing a gun as nice as the Mustang.  I don't have a KT .40, but I do have a P3AT and a PF9.  I carry the 380 in my pocket if I'm wearing pants.  Sometimes I carry the 9 instead.  Both are dependable, light, and easy to conceal.  You might be able to buy one of each for the value of your Colt.  If one of them were lost, you wouldn't have such a loss.
The PF9 is about the same size as your Colt and would probably fit your style quite well.  It would also give a bit more power as well.
$250 for the .40 sounds ok.  I agree that you can probably resell it for what you paid without any trouble if you don't like it.

There is a trick I've read about, but it runs the risk of light primer strikes, only reduces pull from 8.5 down to 7.5 - 8 lbs, and does nothing for the amount of travel.
Overall it seemed like a worthless modification.
Just be the design, there's not much that can be done for the trigger

RoadKing......The problem with the .40cal Kel-Tec was more to do with folks who "Limp Wristed" the pistol and sent them back to Kel-Tec for repairs. I an the wife have both shot the .40cal in the Kel-Tec and the Kahr. They are both a straight blow back action and if you "limp wrist" the pistol is is going to JAM JAM JAM!

I have a friend of mine who carried one of those .40 Kel-Tec's for 3 years with no poblems and it shot 4 inch groups at 21 feet all day long with FMJ ammo. It did NOT like the hollow point ammo.

The 9mm cal in the Kel-Tec PF-9 is smaller and with Pow-R-Ball (483ft-lbs energy) ammo, is very close in kinetic energy to the .40 cal S&W round. The trigger pull on the PF-9 is a lot less than a P-11. The P-11 I had was tested at 10.25 lbs trigger pull and was very long too.
