17 rem to ?
« on: October 11, 2009, 02:13:45 AM »
Hello, I have a Rem 660 right now chambered in 17rem, the throat is pretty much washed out. Thinking of a rebarrel would like togo to something a little bigger than 17 or 22, woluld like to  keep the bolt face .378, so I was thinking 6.5 tcu or 7tcu[have dies for both] or maybe the old benchrest 6x45. Anyone have some other ideas? This gun will be a paper puncher mostly.
Thanx

For paper punching only I'd not over look the 6 TCU or as you say the 6x45. I've owned two 6 TCUs and with the Hornady 65 V-Max both were one ragged hole shooters. It would do great on predators and varmints as well. If deer hunting might be on the agenda for it I'd go with the 7 TCU.

Just pick you case, .221, .222, .223 or .222 mag, and your bore dia. 6mm. 6.5mm., 257  or even .30 cal. I have a .25 cal. on the .221 case which is a good shooter but I may punch it out to the .222 mag. case. I also have a 6 mm on the .222 mag. case ( 6 x 47 ). It is a real tack driver, but it`s a 13 lb. bench gun. A hint to save you money. If your go with one of these rounds you can go up or down 2 bore sizes with the Redding S bushing dies. These are excellant dies and while alittle expencive, they are still about 1/2 the cost of custom dies.

You could always go with the .300 Whisper if none of the TCU or x45 rounds catch your fancy.
