They're nice and quiet, but are they enough for coyote under, say, 200 yds???
Or should I just go for the 22-250?

Mine has worked.
I had planned on using it for Javilina last year.
Heck read Capsticks book on Walley Johston.
One of Walley's kids' friends killed a Cape Buffalo with one.
I have seen deer shot with them and they fall like zapped with lightining. But it was a good boiler room shot at under 60 yards.

The Hornet is up to the task on coyote under 200 yards but the more under the better in my opinion and be darn sure to make good chest shots. Hit in the heart or lungs a coyote is dead meat even further than that but a marginal shot is not gonna put them down rat now and even a good one might not. The .22-250 is a huge almost quantum leap above the Hornet and will be much faster at dropping them than will a Hornet tho both will work.
If you want a Hornet get one of course but if you are looking for a coyote killer and especially if you are wanting to see them topple at the shot then get the .22-250. If you are into saving hides a .17 might be a better choice as they are unlikely to exit. A 40 V-Max or BT might not exit from the .22-250 but if it does then you can kiss that hide goodbye.
