Greetings to everyone here. I checked to see if there was an older thread relating to my issue and didn't find any, so here goes..
I received an H & R Buffalo Classic for Christmas last year in .45-70. I finally got a chance to take it out and shoot it around mid to late August. I had a great time for seven rounds. On #8, the rifle went "click". Same sound on another pull of the trigger. No dent in the primer. I found that the transfer bar had snapped.
I called H&R and reported the incident. They promised to send out a UPS shipping label so I could box it up and return it. They also stressed that this had never happened before.
Two weeks go by - no label. I call back and they said they'd send another one. Two more weeks - no label. I call back, they say to give it another four days or so and if it doesn't arrive, they'll find another way to get it to me (huh?). More delay, no label. So I send an e-mail to the last rep I spoke with and offered to send a check for $.42 to cover the cost of mailing the label. No answer, no label. I am not happy.
So I order the transfer bar from Brownell's. I find out that instead of a transfer bar, the factory calls it a lifter-striker. What do they call the trigger, a puller-shooter? I found another website which details the disassembly/trigger job/reassembly process pretty well.
As soon as my new brass hammer arrives, I'm set to start removing the pins and getting the transfer bar replaced. My question here is twofold - has anyone else had any experience with disassembly on this rifle, and is this usual behavior on the part of H&R?
I always thought these weapons were bomb-proof...
Thanks in advance!
