Terrible decision to ask someone to make
« on: October 23, 2003, 07:24:37 AM »
When I got in last night, every news station was focused on the plight of a woman in Florida who had been in terrible shape for some years after an accident.  It seems the husband has got a girlfriend with new children and has decided to pull the plug on his wife.  The wife's parents on the other hand don't want it to happen.  After it seems like endless court battles, somehow the Florida legislature got invovled, and Jeb Bush signed a bill to not allow here husband to pull her plug.

The news media of course is trying to turn this into a Democrat v's Republican deal with 50 people with opinions one way or the other.  Now personally, I wouldn't want to be kept alive like that, but that's here nor there.  I think the Governor of Florida signed on to be a manager not a personal decision finalizer.  Can you immagine being put in the position regardless of party affiliation of making a ruling to either kill or not kill someone.  Talk about a decision I'm sure he didn't take lightly, and one where there was apparently no right answer.  This isn't the kind of decision you ask the governor and legislature to make.  Do we build a new highway, fund a school project, or raise taxes?  Those of decisions for politicians.  Do we kill this person or let her live and suffer is not a question I would want to have to make the call on.  Then to be dragged over the coals by a gaggle of biased media idiots because they don't agree with my decision just because I'm a Republican and I made a decision isn't in the least bit fair to him.  I'm sure that if he's anything like his brother and parents, he's prayed about this decision, sought guidance from others, and made the decision he thought was best.  Who does the press think they are to question a man burdened with making such a decision?  Something like this would be far easier to arm chair it from that to be on the front line of the Kill her or not decision.
