looking for a good reload for 270win

i got my first hr single shoot rifle . i was out to get an nice expensive left hand bolt but just didnt like they way they felt and the HR seemed like a nice fit and pretty much everything i have read or heard is that they are an great shooting gun and i like the the simple one shot idea.  anyway now that i put a box of factory ammo through it and i am getting into reloading i am looking for a starting point of what loads/bullets everyone has had luck with? its going to be a deer gun but also want to have fun with at the range oustide of deer season.  thanks

  I use 130 gr. Sierra game king bullets over 58.5 grains H4831. It is instant death on whitetail size animals. I can usually get 1 1/8" five shot groups at 100 yards. Not an H&R but still a 270 Win.

Original,   I have found that my Handi likes the 130 gr Combined Technology with 44 gr of Varget. Mv.2849. I also shoot this same load in a Savage 110 rifle. Both of the rifles shoot moa at 100yds. Golf balls off the top of tee's make some fun shooting at the range. This is my favorite in both guns,

Original.  You probably would get more and better results if you were to make your post under the AMMO/RELOADING FORUM. There are some mighty good people who will give you some good answers in that forum. I got a really nice load for my 5 yr old grandson to shoot in his 243. Lots of good stuff there.

I love the 270..always have..and there are a bunch of different loads to try once you get up a running on reloading..For now..I would offer you this advise..Try as many different factory loads thru your rifle first as what you can..I know it's expensive..but..the biggest majority of time I have found 2 or 3 loads that really shine for accuracy in all of the various Handi's I've owned over the years..Once I have 1 or 2 good shooting factory loads to use..I then have a base to work off of. I start off by trying to duplicate that round..then improve on it if possible.

A few factory loads for you to try..
#1..Federal fusion..I and others have had pretty good luck with this round..plus it does a great job as a hunting bullet..
#2..Federal Vital Shock..130 grain Nosler Partition..Legendary bullet..well respected..
#3..Speer Nitrex 130 grain Grand Slam...another awesome bullet with quite a following...

There is not much you can't hunt with these 3 rounds anywhere..and have usually given me respectable accuracy in the factory version...

 Most of the calibers I have loaded for for a long time I have one powder reserved for that caliber. Grand daddy's like the 270/30-06-30-30 this is especially so. I LOVE IMR4831 and Sierra 130Gr bullets for this caliber. I don't post specific loads, but start at starting suggestions and increase margionally you too will feel the "love" from this grand powder bullet combination.

I had great accuracy in one of my 270 H&Rs using IMR4350 and the 150gr Nosler Partition, this barrel was short throated in comparison to most H&R chamberings, so my COL was only 3.299" which was .005" off the lands, I used data from the Lee 2nd edition manual which lists the SAAMI COL of 3.340". You'll want to know how to determine COL, there are two methods listed in the FAQs, be sure to check them out, there's lots of info there, be sure to spend lots of time reading, it will make your Handi experience very rewarding.  ;)

I use IMR-4831 with any 150 grain bullet.

Also, any other slow burring powders are great for the 270 Winchester cartridge IMR-4350, H4350, H4831 & IMR-7828.

Just start at the minimum and work up slowing finding your most accurate load and don’t get hung up on velocity.

With my two 270 Win. I've had my best luck with Sierra 130 gr. Pro-Hunter with a maximum load of IMR 4350. Neck-sizing and proper seating for each gun offered improvements.

My .270 barrel seems to love H4350.
My best accuracy came just below max loads, but your gun may very well like a different load.
