newbie needs help

Just purchased an encore 209x50. Any reccomendations for scope rings, scope. Can't see so well so need to have one. Can the encore accept a piccatiny rail? Someone suggested I need to use see through rings. Any help

I don't have an Encore and never had one so I can't help you with specifics on that gun.  But I will offer my opinion on see through rings.  Don't like them - never have - don't see the logic - never had a scope fail in a hunting situation.

 I dont know if theres a picatinny rail made for the Encore or not, but you should be able to pick up the proper base for it at your local gun shop. Not sure why someone would need a picatinny rail on an Inline anyway, unless you just think it looks good on it.
 T/C makes several good quality sope ring models to choose from. As far as scopes go...a good 3-9 x 40mm scope by Nikon, Burris, Leupold would do nicely. I have a buddy that uses Bushnell scopes and has never had a problem with them. I try to buy the best quality scope I can afford...I like Nikon scopes. My Omega wears a 3-9 x 40 mm Nikon and I love the scope, nice and clear.
 As far as see thru rings go...thats completely up to you. Personally I dont like them because they put the scope too high off the barrel causing you to have to raise your head higher and not getting a good cheek to stock weld when aiming.

I think T/C makes a unit that has the base and rings all in one solid piece.  It's special made for the Encore.
I like a straight 4X Leupold scope.

I am a firm believer in keeping that scope down on the barrel. I also like the 1 piece mount an ring set's. Down side to the T/C mount is there is no room for adjustment for eye relief. I've had 3 Ded Nutz mount's. IMO, you can't beat 'em. I check them w/a junk scope an have'nt had to lap any of them. If close shot's are going to be available, go with a 2x7. I have 2 Leupy's, 1 on the ML and the other on my slugger. Ya just can't beat em. You don't want see thru's. I alway pull my open sight's before mounting a scope.

Thanks guys, i appreciate it. About the picatinny, just meant a base and wasn't thinking. I did read somewhere in the encore stuff they recmnd  see through rings. Def. see your point and cert. is quite logical. The closer to the barrl. the better. Will do.

You want high rings so you can cock the hammer- maybe that was why they were recommending the see-thru's. I have the peeprib with quick detach rings on mine since we have to use open sights during ML season in this stoopid state. Here is the link to it.   http://www.eabco.com/Muzzleloader03.htm
