Best and worst job you've ever had
« on: October 07, 2009, 12:16:32 PM »
Worst job I ever had was my first W2 job at age 14, as a burger flipper for McDonalds. Absolutely disgusting work. Every kid should work there for a while to learn what a bad job is.

Best job, in terms of fun, was working as a stock boy and produce boy at a supermarket in a neighborhood with a lots of old people. You could make somebody's day with just a kind word, or oiling the squeaky wheel of their shopping basket. The work is fun and easy, and it's intimately connected with people's basic needs. Wish I could have made a living at it. Career people in that line of work weren't very secure in their jobs, but as a teenager, it was a good gig.

I got a lot of good shoplifting stories from that job. It was amazing what people would try to steal.

Worst job probably McDonalds in high school. And sadly, I was so well trained I could still work there without missing a beat.

My best job would be working security detail for the band Van Halen. Great bunch of guys.

The worst was being a caddy at 12 years old. Some of those old rich guys carried lead weights in those bags, I swear.

Best was being a musician. Talk about fun. Hanging with your bandmates, women everywhere................. I just wish I could have done it full time.

I autographed more boobs than I can remember. ;D

I once washed dishes 60 hours a week by hand for $50.00.  If we broke a dish we had to pay for it.  I guess the best job I ever had was being a Turboprop mechanic in the USAF.

I think they were one in the same.
Sand man for a Fiberglass repair crew.
Everyday i would don a Paint suit made of Tyvex put on my rubber gloves and tape them to the suit.
Then I would strap on my Army issue gas mask with the chemical hood and make huge dust clouds of fiberglass in the marina and get boats ready to be repaired while in the New Jersey summer heat and humidity I would make large sweat puddles as well.
But i was paid by Dude time. (Dude was another guy that worked for Charlie and Charlie would figure it would take Dude X amount of time to do the job)  I would whip out a 2 day dude project before noon and get paid for two days.   :D
A lot of weeks i would go home with $1,000 in cash after taxes.
And Wed we would break early for the day to meet at the bosses house on the beach for night beach volley ball and BBQ.
Lots of friends would show up.  Great time.

One other job that sucked was as a buss boy at Red Lobster.
I quit after week.  All week i was bringing in the special tray.  You know all the seafood on Ice on display.  Well there was a cooked lobster in the bunch.
I had been there for a week and do not know how long that lobster was out on display but I would take him down in peices.  The manager came to me and told me we were out of lobster and to go get the lobster off the display.  i folded up the parts onto a plate and handed him the crustation.
I was about 16 or 17 at the time.  The manager yelled at me for having the lobster in parts.  I was confussed untill he said how can we serve it in parts like this?  I asked How can you serve it when it has benn out at least a week I have been here?  Told him if he served it I would tell the customer.  He said I was fired if I told.  So not sure telling him was actually quitting or being fired.

First job?  Dishwasher at a Big Boy restaurant.

Worst job?  School bus driver.  Had two 12 yr old girls accuse me of sexually molesting them aboard the bus.  Luckily I had an adult female attendant aboard the bus that could verify I never touched those girls.

Best Job?  Cowboy for the USAF.  Rounding up wild cattle, horses, and illegal aliens, off the White Sands in New Mexico, Holloman AFB.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Started work at 25 cents an hour in wholesale nursery in 1959.  Worked for a good man who taught me trust and discipline.
Worst job having to take over when the officer bought it.
Best job having 12 armed men willingly follow me into the night.
Terror/adrenalin/sorrow/pride/fear of failure/trust/faith/determination/purpose/disiciplne, all at once and all unrelenting.  I thank the god of my fathers that I was never an officer or career. how do they handle it?  We cannot pay our troops enough.

Told me my job was to get in and clean it out and keep it clean as the shift went on. I climed in stayed a few minutes jumped out covered with that stuff and walked to his office told him I QUIT and left.

I clocked in at 3 pm and left at 3:26 PM.

First job- Stock boy at Bills Dollar Store

Worst job- Sawmill first morning they put me on the green chain. Back them I only weighed about 130 pounds and there was wood come down that was over 200 pounds. I did not go back the next day. Even had to throw my clothes in the garbage when I got home. They were covered in sap.

Best job- The place I got laid off back in May. Building custom cabinets. It was nice to take some boards and make some very nice things.

First job- caddy at a ritzy private golf course. Got $4.00 to carry a bag 18 holes. When you turned 13 you were allowed to carry doubles. Best day ever- $26.00! Felt like I'd made a million, rode my bike home and walked in the front door throwing the money all over!

Best job- making $500.00 per hour installing stuff at he Orlando International Airport just before it opened. Too bad the job only lasted an hour!

Worst job- Working 6 years for a guy who acted like a five year old about to wet his pants. Hated to give raises and kept changing the "bonus" program. I quit him and two years later he hired me back at more than double the salary. Only lasted six months before I asked myself why was I back working for this jerk and quit again.

Best job i ever had was making windows for helicopter doors that were going to Nam. If they had one little scratch on them they were rejected. Funny part was. I was working with a guy that was just back from Nam. He said who the hell are they trying to kid. The first thing we do is kick the doors off of them. Who wants to swoop down under fire to pick up a bunch of stranded GI'S and have to worry about doors. The worst job i ever had was laying up 4ft. dia. by 4ft. long fiber glass tubes. My first day i finished up the job i was working on and was sent into a room to cut and sand some fiber glass pieces. No exhaust fan or mask to wear. Went in the next morning and told them to stick thier job where the sun doesn't shine. ;D

Best job? Competing in Police K-9 field trials with dogs I trained from pups, against some of the best patrol dogs in the United States and taking 4th (4 point split between 1st and 4th) in a 5 state competition making the Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.

Worst job I ever had?????????
Probably working for my dad on the farm.
Not that I didn't appreciate what we were doing.
Just that he never understood the concept of taking a break.
In the field at 6, in the rack at 10.
Everything else was work.

The best Job was being a weapons tester for the military, gotcha just kidding I wish I wasn't but I am.

No the worst had to be the hole McDonald's thing, ya that didn't last long.
Best job was  driving a big truck for Shirley Mayhood at Little Bear Transportation as a gas hauler. Well then 6 years later were bought out by the biggest group of ass holes in the world CHS/Cenex which if not the worst come's in a real close second to McDonald's. They laid all us Little Bear guy's off  last week just a week before our one year mark of the buy out. We were to get a one thousand dollar bonus for staying a year as part of our agreement. I still think they had that all planned out "bastard's". And my kids Christmas went out the window, I will make it a good Christmas though I always have. The people at CHS my god I can't even begin to explain some of the stupid #$%@ they do, and it was all top secret. If you asked were the bathroom was they would have to form a committee to see if it was OK to PEE PEE. Trust me I have seen a lot of stupid stuff in the trucking industry in a 17 year time span but CHS takes the cake and they even eat it to, it could covertly be an obamie company.

Best job, electrical tech for a utility in central florida.
