Old Smith & Wesson, model 4 (?)
« on: October 15, 2009, 03:47:09 PM »
A friend of mine asked about the value of an old pistol that he was given.  I believe it to be a Model 4 , it is in .38 smith and wesson caliber, has a four inche barrel, top break with the rear sight being part of the latch and the front sight, a thin blade pinned into a rib atop the barrel.  the serial # is   501XXX.  both patent dates are  1880 flanked by a maltese cross on the either side.  the finish is somewhat  pitted and the bore is also a bit pitted.  I would say 50 percent over all?

any ideas?
