Fusion Ammo
« on: October 17, 2009, 06:34:06 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has/is using any of it in thier 30-30's..as opposed to the Hornady LE rounds..I did some trading yesterday and picked up a new 336c 30-30 with some real nice figured wood and 3 boxes of the 170 grainers..No need for a long range round..but will be putting a nice little reflex site on it for me and the boys this year..

Never heard of it. Is it comparable to the Leverevolution?

I've not used it personally but I've heard only good comments from those who have used any of the new Federal Fusion bullets. They are effectively bonded core bullets due to the way they are made. Federal starts with the lead core then molecularly bonds a jacket around it molecule by molecule until it gets to the thickness they want. It makes a cost effective and well made bullet.

It really doesn't take a high tech bullet to work in the old .30-30 any standard cup and core bullet will do fine so these should also do great.

I asked because I have been wondering when another ammo company was going to hop on the soft point leveraction ammo train and copy Hornady.

I hear ya Bill..pricewise..from what I have seen locally..the Fusion ammo is as cheap if not cheaper as the regular C&C stuff (Winchester/Federal/Remington)..I've used it in once before in my 270 before..and it did ok..small 6pt. at 150 yards..full pass thru..but was wondering how it did at much lower velocities that the good ole 30-30 has..

Terry1..while it doesn't use Hornady's flex tips on it.. it sure does have a very small metplat to it's front end for levergun usage..

On the issue of somebody copying the Hornaday Lever Evolution rounds, I doubt you will see that any time soon, inasmuch as I would bet that both the polymer and the design improvement have been patented by Hornaday.

Well...I got to shoot a couple of boxes thru my 336c yesterday..along with a box of the LE stuff...The LE didn't fair near as well as the Fusion ammo..2" groups..as opposed to a several 1/2' 3 shot groups.. so it looks like another trip back to the store to stock up while the sale is going on on them..

Wierd... :-\ I guess the newer ballard rifling has a lot to do with the XLR's shooting them so well in them..cause the LE and the micro groove rifling in mine don't play well together..

There are rebates available on Fusion ammo, all Federal as well, I think.  ;)
