41 mag sucess

For all you 41 mag lovers like myself, I shot a decent antelope buck this weekend with my Raging Bull.  Took him at about 125yds after a hands and knees crawl. Missed him a few times before I connected with a Speer 210 gr Gold Dot. He ran about 20 yds before rearing up and falling over backwards. I was pumped after countless stalks and crawls over sage and cactus.  But I refused to take my 270 rifle out of the truck. Like they say, if you carry your rifle with you you'll never use your handgun. I think next year I'll try my Encore for a little more range.

  An antelope at 125yds that tolerates "a few" shots from a .41 Mag?? Was it a moving shot?

He moved or trotted after each shot. He turned and was just going to start going the other way when the gold dot took him in the right shoulder. The Gold Dot performed well, right lung was nothing but a bloody froth.  It didn't exit but I couldn't find it in the guts. The 4x32 simmons scope worked well.

Nice shootin. I read an article by Foggy Mountain Guide Service in Maine. The guy who runs it swears by the 41 mag for bear hunting. Decent write up if you can find it on the net.

Interesting....just picked up a 41 bh and am shooting the same bullet for practice.  Will find a heavier HC for hogs though.  Nice work...where are the pics?

Congrats!  Beautiful goat!  I sure do miss my days of hunting out in southern Wyoming...the huge herds of antelope never failed to amaze me!

But now, about your shot....DETAILS...DETAILS...give us some about the shot!
Where did you hit
Did the bullet pass through?
What kind of blood trail?
What did you see of the bullets work (while dressing out the animal)?
Anything else you can think of!!!

Nice to read about the 41. It gets so boring reading about exploits of the 44s and 45s. Not really but I'm a 41 man and love to read of others' successes. Good on ya!

Congratulations on the goat. A 41 is a great gun and will shoot flatter and more accurate than most give it credit for. I have one in the Ruger black hawk Hunter and one in the contender. They are very accurate. My buddy was with me last year in Wyoming antelope hunting and he banged the scope on his XP and didn't know where is was hitting. He went to the truck and got his Smith & Wesson 41 mag and crawled up on a group of antelope and took one at a little over 200 yds. We have been practicing and shooting steel silhouetes with ours at the silhouete range out to 200 yds a lot and he knew right where to put the sights. Dropped the goat and put one more in it after getting up close.
We are shooting cast in our 41's.

Congratulations! I've got a S&W 57 that I bought a couple of years ago, but haven't had a chance to hunt with it. Always glad to hear success stories with the .41.
