OT - I HATE MOVING
« on: June 25, 2010, 12:13:37 PM »
Its been hell the last few weeks , it all started when Mama found out that we could get into the new house a full month before we planned , thats when things went into over-drive . ( not even close to ready )

(1) I had a 4 day weekend off for Mor. day so she says " lets do it this weekend !  ::)

(2) She desides that we Don't need a U-haul -- Pick ups will be fine .  >:(

(3) We went to 60 + hours a week at work .  ???

(4) Do you know how many trips it takes to move a 4 Br house in Pick ups ?  :o  :( = 18

(5) It took Time Warner Cable 2 weeks to hook up my cable & inter-net !  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

(6) First the Mo-dum ( from TWC ) takes a dump and then the router and then my Hard Drive .  :P :'( >:( ;D :D ???

Well , I'm back till something else hits the fan  ;D

Way too much  :D :D , Mama is doing a decent job of thinning the junk out now , would have been nice to have it done before the move though .  :P ;D

Did manage to get one bench built and a couple of press's mounted though and the boss said that I could have up to 1/4 of the basement for a Man Cave , should give me a area of about 30' x 30' once I get the walls up , she's even letting me have the front 10' of the garage to put up a casting / sizing bench .  ;)

Been watching a guy move in since Mor. day. First day he shows up with a small U-haul truck and 3 guys to help. They had no idea how to pack a truck. And if these guys were getting payed by the hour they could have retired without doing nothing. Since then he has been using  4-runner to bring stuff to the house. 2 trips a day with the 4-runner half loaded. He is working by his self. This is only a 2 B/R house on about 3/4 ac. At the rate he's going he should be moved in by next EASTER.  ::)  ::)

We moved out of our house in Wyoming in 2002! Been renting and moved to two different states since then chasing a job. Stuff I haven't seen since 2002. Think I can get rid of it now? No Way, she says!! Good Grief! Haven't worked since December, so "our new house" ain't gonna ever happen and I'd like to move a bit further into retirement like a big 5th wheel. Guess they don't make one big enough for a 2 BR house, and two car garage full and a single car garage full!! Might as well laugh as cry!

Good luck with your new home, Stimpy!!!

Moved my Mom three weekends ago - lock, stock, and barrel.  Last weekend she had us move everything out of the garage and into a POD.  Her new home didn't close yet.  The short sale through the bank is going to take another 90-days (or longer).  She had pared down a good bit since Dad died.  Still, a lot of stuff that should have been garage sold.

I took a look at all of my own "stuff" and the realization hit me that every paper, magazine, book, do-dad, glass, plate, pan, tool, auto, etc., especially the clutter strewn around and stored in nooks and crannies cost money to purchase, money to cool (HVAC), and money to move.  Point being, if you were to REPLACE everything in your house with a brand new one, think about the cost!  Think about what it HAS COST to own all of that stuff!!

Glad you are settling in Stimpy, that all was moved without incident, and everyone is satisfied with the result.  Now to make a house a home!

Been there done that!  Built three houses and darned if the wife didn't rush the move every time.  It is in their blood - they just can't help it.

I have only been successful at one house building technique that has curbed her desire to rearrange things.  I put phone and light switches by each side of the bed so that we can turn on the overhead lights or ceiling fans without getting out of bed.  Once I learned to do this, she could never move the furniture arround again.  In the den, I put floor recepticals where the phone cords and power cords would serve end tables at the ends of the couches.  This made it impossible to move the seating arrangement.  Finally, the TV is mounted inside a wall cabinet where it needs cable and phone service.  Can't move it either.

Think I've got her in a head lock now after 35 years of wrestling with furniture.

Still can't keep her hobby crafts off of my table saw, loading bench, and tool bench.

Well it gets better , yesterday I came home for lunch , the up side to working 3 min from home and the 7 YO desides to open the slidding door that goes out to the sun ( 3 season ) room .

Trying to eat and hear this big crash and a blood curdiling scream , as she starts to slide it open , off the track it comes and falls out into the sun room ( away from her thank god ) now I have to install a new door , going with a single swing french style this time .  ;) :D

Anyone do doors ?  ;D

Well I took a job in Oklahoma and start Monday. Gonna commute daily for a week 130 miles one way, and then my 1 room efficiency apt. comes open. Got that for 6 months, and if job works out will put a paid for house up for sale. Man I hate to do that. We worked hard to get it paid for, but the eco here has taken a dump and shows signs of gettin worse. Gotta do what I gotta do. never thought I'd be doin this a at 60, but when the housing market left, so did my investments.
Up side if there is one, is when my house sells here, I should be able to pay cash for another.

You have my condolences!

Only thing I hate worse than moving is moving in a hurry.   With too little time to carefully pack and label the piles of boxes everything gets into a royal stew.   And that goes in spades for a guy with tools, parts, reloading gear and books and components, hunting-fishing-camping gear, etc.  It's even worse if you have volunteer helpers, they may do good work and you're greatful for 'em but you won't find everything until you finally open the last box.

I want to down size into my motorhome--but the wife doesn't think she wants to. Be hard to find myself a place for the guns and reloading benches--but have an idea for that. Be nice to unload, and be free to travel at a moments notice.

My wifes health isn't doing all that well--who knows--maybe I will be doing it someday. Would enjoy it more if she was with  me.

Well, mov'in is the pits.

Boy oh boy those bullets are heavy!  and that ain't the half of it if your a boolit caster and have hundreds or more of alloy that must be moved.

Gave away a couple buckets of WW 5 years ago or so at the last move. Hope that wasn't a mistake!

Sure do have a nice loading area in our common area - 2 easy chairs, TV, Stereo, great underbench receiver tube system for mounting reloading tools!

Hate moving but do like the new digs!

Keep em coming!

We moved starting in November thanks to RIF in the MO DNR.  It had been over 12 years since my last move and you never know how much 'stuff' you have accumulated until you have to move.  We have now got new house, work buildings and 3 car garage.  The garage is still full of packed "stuff'.  Hope to get the car in it soon.  I have already told everyone that I want my next move to involve a long box and six strong men.  I am now officially retired which means that I have all the time in the world. Yeah, sure!

Normally I move every three years, Army orders. Since 2001, I have moved 6 times.  I have a year left at my current assignment until I am "needs of the Army", which means I have no idea where I'm going until I receive orders in Dec.  My wife and I had our first child 9 months ago and we are dreading the day when we have to move again.  At this rate, I have 4 more moves until I am eligible to retire.  ::)

Thanks, Dinny

I hope TWC is better in your part of Ohio, in the NW Corner of the state they are the pits.  I finally gave up on them and have the Direct TV guys coming out this week.   I told my wife if we have ever have to move again there is going to be a suspicious fire the day before the moving van shows up. ::)

Next time just kindly let her know that she will be moving, you're not. Also ask if she can step on it cause you really need that space in the front room for the new reloading bench LOL.
