In Wall Gun Safe

Has anyone come across a descently designed gun case that could be build into the wall? What I am actually looking for is one that will fit in between the studs in your walls, kind of like those hide away ironing board units that they have now. I tought this would be pretty secure and a great space saver.

Seems like I have seen ads for what your describing. Just big enough for pistols though. You might try a search with Google.  KN

I don't think that most walls would be thick enough for a gun cabinet, would they.  On all the houses I have worked on in the past, most of the walls are only about 6-8" thick.  You might want to check that out first.

There are also gun cabinets that use a vertical drawer type case that slides out of the side (back) of entertainment centers.

tgearrey:  Sawgunner is right about the usual thickness of walls in houses, unless you are going to construct the wall or the room that will house the gun safe.  

One of the shallowest, from front to back, that I have seen is the Homak, sold by Shooters.  It is 10" thin, 19" wide and about 50" high.  That is sufficiently thin to fit between wall studs, usually at 24" on center, but it's a bit deep for your average wall thickness.  

There are some I see on occassion in different magazines that are designed to mount into existing walls but they are small and hold one or two pistols or valuables.  HTH.  Mikey.

if new construction, build a false wall for added depth.   i have an OLD house and with a little studying of the wall placement, i found a false wall already existant.  all i did was cut a door (saving that piece for the door) and line with some plywood i had around and bought two 2x4's to use as a rack.   works slick, and is big enough for all my guns and then some (room for expansion of the collecton).   i will post some pics of it when the baby wakes up.
