I got mine at the local gun shop, had him order it for me. I kind of like to do as much business as I can locally. All the large mail-order houses catalog them. You can get a pretty good one under $100.
On the 19th of April, 1775, a tyrannical government sent an army to disarm its citizens. They ran into a touch of trouble.

Check with your local range before you buy one. I ran across a guy at a public range with a chronograph who said he was there because the range he usually used wouldn't let him have anything in front of the firing line.

MrYeats,
Several manufacturers make chronographs (the name for an instrument to measure the speed of a bullet).  You can purchase them through a local gun store, mail order through several companies (Cabela's, Dillon Precision, Midway are three that come to mind) or buy direct from several firms (Oehler Research, Competition Electronics, Shooting Chrony. PACT) Do a search on the Internet for bullet chronograph and you should find several sources.  Expect to pay at least $85 for a low-end but perfectly adequate one (ProChrono by Competition Elect., Shooting Chrony) and up to several hundred dollars for a high-end unit such as Oehler's.

Cheapest deal around will get you by for several years.  Shooting Chrony website sells factoy refurbished, warranteed base model for $49.95.  Buy a discount store camera tripod to hold it and you are in business.  As said, check with the range first, many won't allow anyone or anything ahead of the line.  After visiting various ranges a bit you will see why.
