A thin Pachmayr pad on the BC 45/70
« on: October 28, 2009, 03:35:09 PM »
I broke down and put a (thin)Pachmayr model 500-m-4-bl pad (part# 03433700604)on the Buffalo Classic tonight. My wife let me use te microwave to heat some water to soften to pad . It conformed to the cresent of the stock well with a littel heated water . I tried some prone position shots, that was all I wanted of the fine steel buttplate.  I can replace the steel butplate at any time or when I toughen (Heal)up some. :o     26-t

That's a nice alternative to cutting and adding a pad, please post a pic!!  ;)

The only problem I'd be concerned about that is the thin pad wouldn't provide much protection for the corners of the stock like the steel plate does, I got my BC stock back from H&R with it busted off even with it on, but they promptly replaced it with a much nicer stock. I cut the stock off and added a Limbsaver.

I cut the stock off and added a Limbsaver.

Tim

How about doing what Tim did, but take an extra 1" off the stock, and add a Limbsaver Slip-on over the new custom fit Limbsaver, so you maintain the correct LOP, and then you have reduced recoil by another magnitude. That is what I plan to do when the time comes. In this day and age of shooting, there is no reason anyone needs to put up with more recoil than they want to.
