Drop in Barrel for CVA Kentucky Rifle?
« on: October 20, 2009, 06:56:02 AM »
Does anyone make a "drop-in" flintlock barrel for a CVA kentucky Rifle? Mine is one of the older ones that I built from a kit in .45 caliber and I would like a .50 cal flint barrel for this. Thanks for the info.

No, sadley,,there are no "drop in" per say.
You can buy a blank then breech it, have 3 dovetails cut for sites and under lug, then have the bottom front flat drilled and tapped for the nose cap. then inlet the breech tang and drill taht for the tang screw.
By the time that's all done, you have more into the barrel than what a new kit in .50 cal would cost. CVA doesn't make'm any more but the Traditions co. picked up the contract for the same gun/kit.
Those things always did take a bit of custom fitting,,maybe Traditions offers a .50 rpl barrel that would fit?

Thanks for the info. That is kind of what I thought as well. We must be on the same wavelength because I noticed that the Traditions looked an awfull lot like my CVA. I emailed them and asked if they were made by the same bunch (Jukar) and if one of their barrels might fit. Even if a small amount of fitting was required, it might be worth it. Thanks again for the info.

I don't remember CVA offering the Kentucky as anything but 45 caliber, but I could surely be wrong.   The 45 I had was sure a great shooter.   Deer Creek mentioned above bought out all the CVA parts, so they'd be my first call.

Finding out if a Traditions 50 cal Kentucky BBL fit in a CVA Kentucky would be call number two.
