Well we laid a big golden goose egg on our elk hunt this year. Hunting the unit burned by the Rodeo-Chedeski fire in 2002 west of Showlow Arizona. Conditions for the first four days hot and dry. Daytime temps about 65 to 70 degrees, nights 40 to 45.Water holes dry due to lack of monsoon activity.Hard to move about with everything so dry.Got a bead on about six elk moving to a water hole we were sitting, then some road hunters arrived and spooked them off.Fifth day we got 6 inches of snow, temps dropping to about 5 degrees with a high of 33 degrees. This was 0k ,but this was with 60 mile an hour winds. This pretty much was the rest of the hunt, snow and big winds. Saw a lot of turkeys and about 50 deer in an area that was lacking deer in the past. Oh well, with help from God, perhaps next year.
