I ran across this neat old hunting professionally framed photo at a local antique store recently. Its dated 1950 and the names of the two guys are actually on the photo. There also hand written info on the back of the sealed area. If you look close enough you can see their names and the location in Nevada. It says:

Roy Painter is the guy on the left
Col. Foster is the guy on the right
It also says "Special Hunt Nevada"

On the back it says:

Bob Foster Col. USA Ret.
Roy Painter V.P. 1st National Bank Twin Falls Idaho

Then is says R.J.F shot while sitting eating lunch
Cow Creek Ranch Country

Our last hunt together. Harvey Hales Ranch Nevada.

The photo was enlarged to about a 8x10 and professionally framed & sealed by Kelker Studio in Twin Falls Idaho based on the seal on the back side.

Just an interesting photo and some history. I could not resist.

I sure would like to put this great old photo back in the hands of the either family. If you have some info that might get me close, let me know.

Just found an Obiturary for Roy Painter dated August 16, 1960 in the Post Register of Idaho Falls, Idaho it states:

Idaho Banker Dies in Calgary

Twin Falls:

Word was recieved Monday night of the death of a prominent Idaho Banker, Roy Painter, of Twin Falls, in Calgary Canada, at 5:30 P.M. Monday of a heart attack. Painter in his 60's was in Calgary on vacation with his wife.

He was the Vice President of Fidelity National Bank here abd a Civic Leader of Magic Valley. For 36 years he was a leader in the Snake River Council of the Boy Scouts. He had been treasurer, vice president , and president of the Idaho Bankers Association.

A native of Norton, Kansas he married the former Sarah Greer in Caldwell in 1915. They have two sons and two daughters.

That is very sad. The poor guy went out young in his 60s. Holding this great old photo in my hand makes it all that more sad for me. I off course knew they were long gone. I figured they are both in their mid to late 50's in the photo. The photo is dated 1950 so that would make them 110 or so.

I've been goggling & searching and did find a few strands of info. There are still Painters in the Twill Falls area. I'll keep searching for the Col. In the end, I’ll decide which relatives to call. I see there is a Mike Painter in the Twin Falls area. Likely the son of Roy.

Thanks for looking and really appreciate the follow up. I really want to put this photo in the hands of one of these families.

Amazing! Both these guys were very accomplished and successful. The Col.has one serious set of accomplishments as does Roy. From their historical resumes, hard working Americans. What a great couple of American life stories.

I just knew there was a story with these men. And a good one at that. Thanks for looking into this. Really appreciate it. Now I need to find relatives.

John William Greer, son of W.J. and Dora in Norton County, Kansas, December 10th, 1895, and departed this life at Caldwell, Idaho, March 10th, 1919, age 23 years and 3 months.

John grew to young manhood near Norton, and in the spring of 1914, moved with his parents to Caldwell, Idaho. He was a Junior in the Norton County High School and a member of the First Baptist Church of Norton. He took his letter with him and united with the First Baptist Church of Cladwell.

He took the influenza in October from which tubercular trouble developed going into tubercular meningitis.

John's constant thought was the comfort of father and mother and his cheerful sunshiny disposition made him loved by all who knw him.

He leaves to mourn his early going a father, mother, three brothers and five sisters, all being present at the last. Homer W. Greer of Glenn's Ferry, Idaho, Frank A. Greer of Horse Shoe Bend, Mrs. Bertha Foley of Norton, Kansas, Arthur G. Greer, just returned from France, Mrs. Sarah Painter of Molt, Montana, Mrs. Flores Gipson of Caldwell, Helena and Lois still at home. One brother and one sister having preceded him to the great beyond.

Funeral services were held at the home March 12, at 2:00 p.m.. conducted by Rev. Vanon and the body laid to rest in the Canyon Hill cemetery, Caldwell.

Notes for SARAH L. GREER:
Sharah Green is the spelling of her first and last name on the marriage records of Canyon County, Idaho. ( I believe that it was a transcription error and her name was in fact Sarah Greer.

1930 Census shows her name as Sarah G. Painter and the children Sarah A. 12 years, Bruce 10 years, Betty Lou 8 years, and Gerald L. 1 year. ( tHe G would indicate here maiden name of Greer.

Notes for ROY PAINTER:
Death Notice of this man in the Post Register Newspaper of Idaho Falls dated Tuesday, August 16, 1960 page 14 states he died of a heart attack while on vacation in Calgary, Canada with his wife.

This notice gave his wifes name as Sarah Greer and stated that they had two sons and two daughters.

1930 Census shows her name as Sarah G. Painter and the children Sarah A. 12 years, Bruce 10 years, Betty Lou 8 years, and Gerald L. 1 year. ( tHe G would indicate here maiden name of Greer.

Marriage Notes for SARAH GREER and ROY PAINTER:
Marriage Records transcription shows her name as Sharah Green and the marriage was recorded in Volume 08, on page 162 of the Canyon County, Idaho Marriage records.

Note Death Notice of her husband in the Post Register of Idaho Falls states her name was Sarah Greer.

Children of SARAH GREER and ROY PAINTER are:
   i.   SARAH ALICE3 PAINTER, b. November 02, 1917, Hannah, Wyoming; m. HARRY JAMES PRIOR; b. January 01, 1918, Hollywood, Los Angeles County, California.

Notes for BRUCE PAINTER:
I have a Hal Bruce Painter arriving in New York Harbor on the Battlesghip Texas listed as a member of Naval Gun Crew. I am not sure that his is him.

   iv.   GERALD L. PAINTER, b. Abt. 1929, Idaho.

Look at the children of Roy they were born in the 1920s' probably all dead and you would need their children. I bet they are in the Twin Falls Area other than the girls that married a man from california.

All I could find on Robert J. Foster was that he was married and that they had a son on September 01, 1953 and they lived at 215 1/2 9th Street at that time. I found many articles in the paper that referred to various awards and many services of the LDS Church that he attended along with his wife. they never mentioned her name. Articles of civic interest with him in it all the way up to 1957. If this is him I can find no more on him at tjhis time.

I bet if you contacted the LDS Church in Idaho Falls, idaho they would know his family as he was a member in high standing.

Just a quick update here. I did find out that Col. Foster (the guy in the photo on the right) had a very accomplished military career. His specialty was veterinary medicine and he was involved in allot of research and development work over the years. Cornell University has an archive of his life’s work both military and non-military. Make a long story short, I contacted the archives department over at Cornell, and they are trying to help me locate next of kin on Foster.
