I have a handi rifle in .223 that wont shoot.  It's been taling up space in my safe for a few years now.  I've put about 75 rounds through it and cant get any kind of a pattern.  It is 5-10 inches at 100 yards no matter what I feed it.  I've tried several different factory loads and quite a few different reloads.  Its not a question of what shoots tighter----they all spray all over the place.  I've been told to take my medicine and make a boat anchor out of it but I hate to give up an any gun.  Any advice would be appreciated.

this has happened to me at different times, and the culprits were:
-the forearm screw was too tight,
-a foreign object between the barrel and forearm
-I was pushing the rifle down on the rest to acquire the target - instead of resting it on bags or something.

Welcome Andy! Read the Handi Basics 101 sticky as well as the accurizing info in the FAQs, you're on the same path as many before you, follow in their steps and you'll make a shooter out of it. The number one cause of inaccuracy is oil/solvent on the latch and shelf, clean and dry that first, then work on the forend issues and placement on the shooting rest.

I'd start with a different scope.

Assuming nothing helps, that exceeds the factory threshold for accuracy. Return it to H&R.

I had a super light 223 that nothing I did would make it shoot any better than minute of barn, so I got out from under it. But try all the suggestions in the faqs and try diffrent scopes. be thourough before you give up on the rifle.
