45 acp on a SB1 frame?
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:54:56 PM »
I have a SB1 .410 with a small fireing pin frame. Is this frame suitable to stub to 45 acp? I saw in FAQ's about 357 and 44's . 45 acp should be lower pressure than  357 0r 44 . I do not know about bolt thrust for 45 acp.  ??? Thank's 26-t

Well, the bolt thrust would sure be less than a 12 gauge magunum.  Larry

Bolt thrust would certainly be far less than a .44, probably even the .357 too.  That's a good idea by the way.

You should be good to go. A friend of mine has one on a modern SB1 frame that I helped build, and after a box of ammo to prove it out it is still running strong. Low noise, low recoil, huge amounts of fun!  ;D

It was not too long ago that GB would ban anyone from the board for even suggesting that any barrel other than a shotgun be fitted or tried on a SB1 frame.  That is probably why you do not have a bunch of people telling you it is OK to do.  Larry

Will it chamber in a .45lc rifle? Like a .45 Auto Rim with a half moon clip?

The blank I have is a .451 ,so that is why I asked about 45acp not 45 long Colt . Please FORGIVE me if I have offended any one! 26-t

You're doing fine, since H&R now fits a couple pistol chambered barrels to shotguns frames, it's kinda opened the door to discussions on low pressure chamberings on shotgun frames. Personally I see no use for the 45ACP in a Handi, and others may feel the same way, but I'm not a plinker either unless you consider the 45-120 a plinker, now that's fun!!  ;D But different strokes and all that, go for it if that's whatcha like.  ;)

I know Andy has a 45acp barrel and he seems to love it. I believe some cals can be a novelty as well as for limited purposes, not to mention just for FUN.
I would love to have a 45acp barrel or a 9mm barrel both carbine length, just a fun plinking barrel.. and you could take a couple critters with it in a pinch.

The purpose for a 45acp Handi is I have all the tools (Lathe-Bridgeport-Tigwelder) to do the project.I am trying to aquire the knowledge by the use info that is on this message board.I have had the 45 barrel blank for several years. I shoot 1911 Colts and have a progressive loader set up for 45acp. I have yet to do a stub job and I would like to try. I have some background in smithing and have built several bolt guns and a few wildcat reamers of my own design. The hinge breech action is a different animal and it intrigues me. ;D Thank's    26-t
