Two inches high at 50 is a pretty good guess.
But, you really need to sight that rifle in at 100 if you are going hunting with it.
Aim small don't miss.

What bullet and powder charge are you using.  Dead on at 50 with a saboted conical will be any where from a little low to a little high at 100, depending on the above.

My encore sighted in dead on at 50 is 2 inches high at 100. Load is 325 grain bullet over 120 grains blackhorn. An interesting question for sure. The height the scope is above the bore will be as big a factor as the trajectory of the bullet. I sure wouldn't feel comfortable taking a shot twice as far as I've sighted in my gun at. I sight mine in at 100 which is as far as I will take a shot, not 200 because someone on the internet said the drop should be this much or that much.

My contender 209-45 with a 225 grn power belt and one 50 grn 777 is 2 inches high at 65 yards. an old hunter told me to put a lot of hair in scope and you will be ok but of course I was told that sulfer would keep snakes away till we tried it and found it did not work :) :) :)

And at 75 yards with that load you would just be killing snakes and nightcrawlers.

i found out an answer that i think i will have faith in.....used a new invention called the telephone, and called hornady...gave the man my info on gun and load.....he looked it up on his computer and told me....if you zero in at fifty yrds your bullet will be -1'' at 75...-1 1/2''at 100,and -2 1/2'' at 125 yrds........he also said my previous mentioned load would produce a mz. volocity of about 2000fps........w/ the .270 shooting factory win.150 grns.....+1/4 at 50...0 at 100 and -1/2 at 125yrds...

I think you'll shoot over the back of the first couple if you meant 1.75" low at one hundred.  100 gr of powder/200gr bullet/2" high at 50 puts me close to 4" high at 100 and gives me a 175 yd dead zero.

Denny-
That was about what I was getting- 2 inch rise from 50 to 100. I think salty is a bit confused about  crossover.

let's make it simple........my rifle will be zeroed in to hit where the cross hairs are aimed at at 50yrds.....now to shoot at something at 100yrds,i aim about 1 1/2 '' higher....that's what hornady told me anyway.. ???

Are Hornady's figures for iron sights or a scope?  I think every rifle will go a bit differently. However if I sighted in 1 inche high at 50 yards my 50 pushing a 240 gr, XTP on top of 100 gr. Goex 3F is still a hair high at 100 yards and dead on at 125.  My 54 with a 410 grain minie ball on top of 100 grs. of Pyrodex RS sighted two inches high at 100 yards is also 2 inches high at 50 yards. I would go for 1 inch high at 50 yards with your load.

SS,

Your POI will be determined by how high your scope/sights are from the center of your bore. Hornady is only going by general information entered into a ballistics calculator. There is only ONE WAY to know the POI at a given yardage for a particular rifle/load and sighting system, that is to shoot it. You may be 2" low, but you may also be 2" high, or you could have the same POI at 50 yards and 100 yards.

Any sighting system sits above the bore,,,to get your rifle to zero, you must have your axis of your bore tilted upward,,,where the trajectory crosse the line of sight will be one zero,,,but you must remember "what goes up comes down" and you will have another zero down the line somewhere,,,so every rifle has two zero's,,,now with that in mind, the above item all factor into this,,,your bullet will cross your line of sight twice, on the way up and on the way down,,,you could still be on the way up at 100 yards and be hitting higher that at 50 yards,,,if your scope/sights are closer to the bore, this will not be as dramatic of a change, and your two zero's will be much closer together,,,if your scope is in a set of high rings 1-1/2"+ above the bore, your two zero's will be further apart, and the APEX of your trajectory will be much higher than your two zero's.

Hope that helps explain it, but there are several factors other than just the basic load information that determine POI. Hornady is only giving you the trajectory of the bullets path, your sighing system will be what determines the POI at given ranges along that path of trajectory. The only exception to this would be if you determined the APEX of the trajectory and made that your zero, everthing else would be below your line of sight before and after your zero.

Like I said, if you are going to go to all the trouble to buy a hunting license, camo gear, gun, powder, bullets, drive to the deer woods, etc, etc, etc...

You simply have got to shoot the rifle at 100 yards, and I don't mean once or twice. I mean dozens of shots.

You owe it to yourself, and to the deer, to know where you are hitting.

To take the telephone advice from the powder company, and then go hunting, will make you a half-assed hunter.
Aim small don't miss.

Just to get on paper at 100 what should have my Triumph sighted in at  say 25 yds.?  Seems like I always end up way low at 100 with a zero at 25. Before you guys jump all over me I know I have to shoot it at 100 yds. just wanting to save BH209 and bullets getting there.
