Kind of a dilemma.....
« on: October 18, 2009, 05:08:09 AM »
I have a SW 745 10th Anniversary IPSC that's in like new condition.  It has the original box and all the papers, etc.  It's not a highly prized collectable, there were 10,000 made.  It has all the bells and whistles stock, from trigger work, to checkering, novak sites, ambi safety, two-tone finish etc, etc.  It shoots like a dream.  I also have the hankering for a new 1911 just cause I want one.  No particular purpose in mind.

When I look at what's out there, I see that in order to get all that I have on the 745...I'll pay a lot more.

What would you do.....keep or trade?

KEEP!

Can't hurt to have more than one .45. Since you already have one with all the "good stuff" ::), you might look into a 1911 that merely retains the early modifications of JMB's basic battle pistol - the KISS principle. Long live the 1911-A1.

There is a rule I stand by wheather it is golf clubs or guns.
I don't sell them or trade them.
You never come out even doing either and you got them because you liked them.
Closet time is not a bad thing--they you find yourownself wandering back to them.

Yeah....guess you're all right.  BTW... I also have a LW commander w a ramp, throat and polish and de-horn and night sites, and a LaRocca Gun Works Colt GM w the works inc. 20lpi checkering and buried bomars.  This was a 3rd 45 that I kinda liked.

Guess I'll keep and thanks!

Never traded or sold a gun that I didn't regret letting go.

Hi guys!! Now this is a thread near to my heaert... I too remember the 30-06 M700 early gun sold in a moment of weakness..the Colt Woodsman early, that I let my brother... buy. it was new!!! and had the high speed mainspring housing, so was good to go.. (loved the adjustable front AND rear sight... I would say that sadness is having to sell a gun because you need the money back.. Keep them ALL!!! sell when you die.. By the way bought a nice 1911A1 a week or so ago. It has the GHD stamp and all the acceptance/proof marks and 85-90 of the finish.. Sights have been monkeyed with but not too bad and the hammer, thumb safety, grip safety, sear, slide stop and sear spring have all went missing./. I have all the needed parts in the correct vintage except for the slide stop. Guess I'll be haunting the gunshows for a while(and the internet sales..).

The health problems kinda slow me up some but we go forward when we can.. Went turkey hunting today.. hurt a little but great fun was had.. I always loved the 1911 and have usually read these threads when on the sight.. but of course have to keep  caught up with the gunsmithing thread. Take care my friends..

And speaking of gunsmithing gunnut - dang glad you specified that new 1911A1 of yours had 85-90% of its finish, cuz on accounta the fact that the hammer, thumb safety, grip safety, sear and a couple of other parts went missing makes it sound like the whole gun is only 85-95% there and needs some 'smithin'......

Sorry to hear about your health problems and won't ask what they are/were, just glad to hear you can get back out hunting.  Turkey season here too although my wife is the only one who has seen anything and she only sees them when I go deer hunting......go figger.............

Last year on my Wanderlust--and while driving thru NEW YAWK---I saw more turkey than I have ever seen.

Also glad you're back G!  Nothing like a day in the field to make you feel wholew again (well...mostly).  I THINK I've learned my lesson about selling stuff.  I've picked up the 745 and it'd back where it belongs...home with me!

Doug - a .17 at the junction of the neck and body will give you everything else to eat.  I cook those up in a Reynold's Oven Bag, add a little dry white wine for necessary moisture and I don't care how big and tough they look, they come out tender and oh so tasty......... Good Luck.
