Does anybody have experience with the 6.0 Powerstroke?
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:24:37 AM »
I'm looking at a 2006 f250 extended cab 2wd with 22,000 miles on it as another work truck on the farm. The asking price is $23,000.  I need something that is pretty heavy and can haul heavier loads of feed.  I found it's getting cheaper to buy my own feed instead of growing it.

keep on looking better to buy an older superduty with the 7.3 than the turd the 6.0 has turned out to be. Do a search there have been so many problems with them I would never buy one. my friend bought one when they first came out traded his 7.3 for it and regretted it soon after. last count he had 4 turbos put on it before he finally traded it back in. He bought a new 6.4 and so far only had to take it in to have the computer upgraded to a service light. there is a thread on here already about the 6.0 take a look at how ford stands behind that engine and how much a replacement costs.

They have a poor reputation. There is quite the cottage industry out there putting Cummins engines into those trucks.

Thanks guys...Did a little research and I think I'll pass on the 6.0. I was hoping for some positive reviews. I think I will keep looking for a low mileage Dodge/Cummins.  The problem is there is just not any used ones in my area and the new ones are 40+ which is a little more than I wanted to spend on a farm truck.  Finding a work truck with roll up windows and vinyl flooring is tough. The local dealer had a 2006 chevy with a duramax but it sold before I could get there.  I did look at a 2006 2wd 2500 cheverolet for a little less.(20,099)It had about 27,000 miles and looked real clean.  It had the 8.1 liter 496 gas motor, but the mileage would really stink...6-12mpg tops and I need 4wd to get to the pens when it's muddy.  I guess another thing was I don't think it would really tow any better than my 5.7 hemi...The horse power and torque ratings are not that far off.  It has 25 less horses and 75 more pounds of torque.  I have some bad roads on my place.  I'll keep looking.

Mileage sucks, 12.3 period.  Don't matter, highway or around town.  No problems, runs fine, lots of power, lots of torque, tows heavy loads fine, just lousy mileage.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Someone said Ford has a law suit aginst Navistar because of that engine . I have a friend who got his money back on one because of the lemon law . Seems the o ring seals on the injectors fail and fill the cyl and crank case with fuel . Then i have also heard the GM diesel will do the same thing if the injectors are not replaced after 100000 miles . Which means i was on borrowed time i had 180000+ on mine when i sold it .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Ford is having issues with the 6.4 as well. I think I will keep my 7.3 I'm giving the ole gal a refresher right now 1997 model with 300k hard worked miles. Just replaced the original rotorsdue to wear. I have or will replace the idlers for the drive belt the ball joints and the u joints. I figure after that many miles it's about time. Motor still runs strong. Up to this point all I have replaced is the radiator and water pump. Not too bad considering the hard use

Late '05 and newer 6.0 Fords are good engines. They had some problems early on. I'll keep my '06 Ford with it's 6.0. No problems so far, too much power, and not bad mileage (18-20 miles/gallon).

Disagree if you want, but do some better research first. When doing that research check out trucks for bumper to bumper problems. The Cummings engine is outstanding, but I've not been too impressed with the rest of the truck.

I'm not a "mines better than yours" kind of guy, but I am happy with my '06 Ford F250. You can bet that I will shop ALL brands when the time comes to buy another. Take care fellas.
