found a few more photos
« on: November 08, 2009, 12:59:47 AM »

the smoke was hanging in the air, it was a very early humid morning, the deer stand was a surprise, and we DID check our woods before shooting, this was a locked/gate farm area so we were the only ones there. but still, i need to replace this rung for the guy's built stand :D
there are a few trees that have 'cannonball rub marks on them, a few limbs cut~ i tried a 1" grape shot charge, but we had to much blowby and it didn't get velocity and just bounched off everything. the 4x4 pole was 25yds out, and i hit it first try. i tried poolballs, but they disintegrated and the paint/colors were imbedded into the pole~they need a sabot i guess :-\
anyway, someday, when i get my garage built, or a workshop, i will get her back, and shoot somemore....or if someone buys her, i will then build a full size 6# ;D
that's Gary takeing a movie version........and keeping me outta trouble.
one surprise~ the gun doesn't "recoil'....it moves maybe like a shudder, rocking 2" or so....it stays right in it's tracks, if the ground is soft, it has a wheel depression made after 3-4 shots, and just rocks back-and-forth. but this was a 2oz shots...3oz with 2 balls didn't do any diff either....but someday i want to use the max charge, with a lead ball(i have a mold) ;)

please dont even think of using lead balls in that caliber
if you are going to cast your own balls zink is much better
lead is too dense and can help to build dangerous pressures
zink is very close in weight as the original cast iron balls

I would not use lead either .

I do like your photos , the one looking through the fencepost . Hitting someones deerstand ! :o ......tell him the deers got a bigger gun thats all !

Plenty of splinters came off that fence post . It ,was your fencepost, right ?

NRA Gun Safety Rules

Know your target and what is beyond.
  • Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second.

point taken :o
the weight would be cool tho 'downrange'......and it would 'smush up' pretty cool if i shot a old junker car or something~ :P

hehehe......yeah i know, and we looked, and yelled around to make sure no 'squirrel hunters' were around there...i used a level to make sure the bore was NOT elevated, and kept all the shots with in a 6ft dia circle :D....but....."once you go pirate, you never go back" 8) kinda took over, the smoke hung around for a 1/2 hour, and wow did i stink when i got home!

I really like the first picture, but I agree that you need to make certain your range is clear so there are no surprises.  Looks like you had a lot of fun.

The first shot would make a good calendar shot. Please consider entering it next year.
