Anyone use a "Butt out" yet?

 I have to admit that when I seen these at Wal Mart, I had my doubts. But, I figured..."Ok...I'll try it."
 I have to admit...this thing works like a charm. I always hated splitting the pelvis, but with this thing you dont have to. Just curious if anyone else has used it yet. In my opinion its worth the $9 I gave for it.

 Two other new items I got to test out on that doe today were the Sagen Saw and the
Buck Omni Hunter 10PT Skinner. My wife got the Sagen Saw for me for my b-day this year, and the Buck was a 5 years of service gift from where I work.

 The Sagen Saw is designed to split the pelvis and sternum. While the Butt Out negated the need to split the pelvis, The Sagen Saw made very short work of the sternum. I was well pleased with it.

The Buck Omni Hunter 10PT is possibly THE sharpest I have ever seen a knife come out of the box, but the blade is a little too broad for my taste, and the handle has way way too much curve in it. I stuck with it though and used it all the way through to removing the tenderloins and backstraps, then quartered the deer with it as well. The one thing I WAS impressed with was that the blade was still hair popping sharp after repeated bone contact. Im not kiddin...this skinner is scary sharp and holds an edge very well. Thats saying somethin for me cause Im not a fan of stainless steel blades. I have always preferred Carbon steel blades.
 How bout it guys...use any new products latey? What did you think of them? Let us know.

 I wondered about the Butt-Out, but was a little concerned about it being another useless gizmo. Was waiting on someone else to jump first . I guess I will put it on the list.

 I have seen the Sagen Saw. Looks a lot handier than the old hand saw. May have to add it as well.

 I have not tried any new help items of late.

I must admit, as I seen a young fella using one, they do work.
Old school, I guess. I don't want to search around gadget's just to find my zippo. In all reality there is no reason to split the pelvis bone or carry a saw to cut the sternum.  IMO, You just need a good ol' solid, sharp huntin knife w/a 5" or 6" blade. Just cut a patch of hair off surrounding the a-hole then just stick your knife all the in on the outside of the rectum an make a complete circle, just follow the bone.
Standing over the deer facing toward the back of the deer, stablizing the front legs with yours, stick the knife in rolling up under the sternum and with about 3 or 4 good solid jerks should put you thru the sternum. Slit the belly on down, reach in an cut the wind pipe, grab it and roll it all out. You may have to do a little cutting on the outer lining as your pulling, depends on the size. Should be good an clean.

I got family that uses that tool.  I've only field dressed two deer in my life and never used one.  To be honest, if I use that tool for what it's intended for....... I don't really want it back no matter how well it gets cleaned.  There's some parts about dressing out a deer that I try to forget as soon as it's done, unless you're talking about tossing the deers junk at my father in law who isn't paying attention.

I always cut just to the side of the sternum, that make it to were you only have to get through some ribs not a solid piece, four or five good jerks and wallah to the top..

Butt-Out works great!  Makes gutting go a lot faster.  Seems like I would spend about half the time cutting around the a-hole.  Now it's just 'Insert-Twist-Pull' and you're done.

They've got a new model - that has an extension and a round 'guard' to keep from getting your hand dirty.  New model on sale now at Cabelas for $7.49.  Wal-Mart has the old model for $9.99.
