Savage 110 7X57 barrel
« on: December 31, 2009, 01:36:50 PM »
Hi! I have a Savage 110CL (left-hand, long action, detachable magazine) rifle I would like to rebarrel to 7X57 (7MM Mauser) I'd like to keep the cost down so I am looking for an Adams&Bennet pre-threaded barrel. MidwayUSA won't have any in stock until August of 2010 at the earliest. Anybody know somewhere else I can I can find one? Also looking for the old style smooth barrel nut for this conversion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not think you can get an A&B barrel any where but Midway USA. You can get inexpensive barrels from ER Shaw. They cost $155 for Chrome Moly in the white, or a SS for $225. Of course that is more expensive than an A&B barrel; the good news is you can get a profile to your liking and you will not have to wait until August to get it, but being custom ordered you will have to wait a little while. I ordered a custom Savage barrel from Shilen and it took 4 months. You could look at other cartridges like a 7-08 or a 280 Remington, both are close to the old Mauser - but not the same, if you must have the 7mm Mauser. I am seriously considering a long action 7-08; a conversion from a 30-06. I should be able to stick those long bullets out there a ways with out hanging up in the magazine. Good Luck and Good Shooting

Think I would look for a Savage or Remington 7mm-08 takeoff barrel and just set it back and chamber it.  I have a 7mm Win Mag barrel, but the chamber is so long that you cannot thread it for a savage and cut off the old chamber.  A 7mm WSSM may have enough length to do it however.  Larry
