Yes.  With regular rings the tube length was too short.  It was still a tight fit and the forward bell of the scope has very little space between it and the base.  The scope is a Leupold 3-9X-40.  I also noted when pulling the gun up with my heavy hunting clothes on the scope would be better if it was moved back just a tad.  Can't do it with this scope.  I hate to consider a new scope as the Leupold is a good one.  Maybe I could use higher rings, but that would make the scope hgher above the barrel.

Ohio's deer gun season is over today so I'll have a while to work on this.  I'll be at Cabela's tomorrow and will see if they have some Remington AccuTips as the Federal ammo misfired twice out of 9 shots.

I just ordered the EGW 2120 base recommended by Savage. I assume the problem is with the rings and this base wouldn't help??? I don't have my gun in hand yet as it was ordered last Tues. Just trying to get my "ducks-in-a-row" before it gets here...

Coop:  I don't know, but I think it is the rings that are the problem.  I used a Weaver #46 base as recommended by my gun shop. - Bill aka Star1pup
