45/410 using 460 brass
« on: November 02, 2009, 07:14:14 PM »
Has anyone here tried reloading for the 45/410 H&R barrel using 460 S&W brass. I'm not talking about hot loads... just using the longer brass to take up some of the freebore.
I just got one of these barrels and want to experiment a little bit with it. I know about the 450 Mongo but I'm looking to see what else can be done with it.
Once again... I'm talking about only loading to 45LC pressures but using 460 brass.
The barrel is on an SB1 frame so low pressure only.

Any other tips or hints with this barrel are welcome but no hot rod loads ;)

Spanky,

Do you have any 460 brass to see if it will chamber? I was curious about your question myself so I started searching and found this thread from another forum - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4556160#post4556160. If you read through it you'll see a post from someone who says that they have the same gun and the chamber is cut so that 454 or 460 brass will not chamber. If that is the case then obviouly you'd have to ream it first to accept the 460 brass.

I don't have any 460 brass to check. I could take my gun to my dealer and check some brass for fit. I'll check it out and post whether it fits or not.
Thanks for the link Doublebass.
