Fabricate large loop lever for Win. 92
« on: October 19, 2003, 04:43:27 PM »
OK leveractioneers, who can modify/make a John Wayne type large loop lever for a Winchester/Rossi 92 for a decent price?

I have a few '92 finger levers that I would like to have the "bow" made larger in the shape of the John Wayne lever. I know Rossi has a large loop lever but they are NOT the same.

Winchester has the John Wayne type large loop lever but they are for the 94.

The nominal price is $150.00 to have it done around the Phoenix area. Does anyone do it for quite a bit less?

I'm not interested in Wild West Guns 'cause they are expensive also.

You might try asking that question on leverguns.com.
I will say this about the large loops. while they look nice they are functionaly USELESS. I have had friends that had them for a little while and after messing with them they did not have them very long.
You may already know that but I just hate to see people spend good money on a modifcation and then wish they hadn't
BTW ... If you try that twirling thingy like the ole Duke I hope you have good insurance. :-)

Thanks for the info. But the large bow lever is not useless. If you HUNT in the cold you most likely wear gloves. The gloved hand fits nicely in the lever. Another plus for the large loop lever is the psychological effect it has on others. For instance I purchased a Winchester 94 Wrangler I (32 Win. Special) over the NET and had it shipped to a pawn shop for me to pick up. While I was waiting for the dealer to process the paperwork ( Brady Bill nonsense ) when some unsavory types walked in and were wandering around. I told the dealer I was going to check out my new possession. I gave it a whirl and the look on the faces was astounding. I was quite surprised at there reaction. But I realized they were Hollywoodized. Just think of all the wild things you see in TV and the movies. John Wayne and Chuck Connors twirling their Winchesters.

Oh, as for twirling the thingy it is NOT possible to shoot yourself. The action remains open until about 6-7 o'clock when it starts to chamber a round. During this time the barrel is pointing down. If anyone has heard a story of someone shooting themselves while doing the twirly thing it is a total fabrication. I twirl my levers live. But just like anything else do not point them at anyone or anything you do not intend to shoot. As for having insurance, it is good idea to have it if you have a firearm regardless if you do the twirly thing or not.
