Glenfield 30 in .30-30 (picture added)
« on: August 19, 2009, 12:16:52 PM »
I sold my old Glenfield 30 some time back and I really missed it.  I found another one and put it on layaway today.  They all seem very accurate.  I don't believe they have Micro-groove rifling & the 1/2 tube magazine seems to help as well.  The triggers seem lighter & creep free.  This one has the funky embossed deer etc. on the pistol grip & forearm.  The metal looks new, but the stock has a few handling marks.  I will probably put a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X32 on it & my leather Marlin sling.  These guns are just the ticket for swamp hunting & along the edges of open fields.

Got one two years ago in 30-30 manuf in 1967.  Took it hunting once. Came home with a big Nebraska 4x5 whitetail. Shoots around 1.5" @ 100 yds with Remmy 170's.  Got a 30 in 35 Remington manuf 1969 this summer.  Not quite as accurate but haven't tries my pet reload yet in it.  The 30-30 looks almost new after a stock refinish.  The 35 is a little rougher but still pretty nice. Will use them till I can't, then pass them on to the grandkids.

Swampman, is the barrel 20 or 24 inches on that model.??? :) My Marlin has a 24 in barrel with a half mag. I really like that style rifle. Used to see lots of .35's but they all had only a 20 in barrel.  :-\ :( ;)

I believe it's a 20".  I wish I could find a 30TK in .35 Remington.

Did they make that mod. in 35?   :-\  If so I sure would like one also!  I've got a 30TK in 30/30 and it's a real fun piece of work.   :)

Interesting. I put a Glenfield 30-30 on layaway (poor mans credit card) about a week ago. I'll pick it up maybe this friday.  It's got the dumb stock engraving and a full mag.
Had a real nice old Redfield scope on it 4X post. Nice and clear.
Nice leather sling too.
I think it's got micro-groove, pretty sure.
What do you think one without scope in good condition is worth?  $250???
May trade it. Hunting season coming up you know.

I paid $275.00 out the door without a scope.  Yours sounds like a 30A.  I had one of those but the trigger pull was about 8lbs.  I eventuly sold it.

Well, I believe it is a 30A.  Didn't really try the pull except to make sure action worked.
$275 sounds good for yours, that 1/2 mag is a plus.
Can't imagine what a new Marlin costs.  $400 up? Anyway I don't care for that new safety.
Can't wait to get my hands on my new, old Glenfield!
I might just keep it!

I shot it today and it is very accurate.  I guess it's the button magazine.  I set it about 1" high at 100 yards.

just picked up a Glenfield 3030 from luvs2hunt62.  Quick mounted a scope on it and took it to the range.   One ragged 4 shot hole at 25 yds.    No time for more sight in - had to go watch the FL/GA game.   The Glenfield with the half mag will be perfect for swamp hogs.

Mine was hanging with my buddies .308 Howa at 100 yards.  He had a lot more scope than I did.

Buckeye,

I've got the twin to yours. My grandfather gave it to me and I shot my first buck with it. Wouldn't part with it for gold.

I had one like this without the pressed buck designs.  It was very accurate.  I sold it in a moment of weakness.
