Thanks Kyode.  I have some 4895.  I'm thinking about 41 grs. with the 120 gr bullet.

my best load is 41.5gr in my 15" encore. it shot pretty good at 40.0 when i started load workup also. it had been recommended to me n really saved me some time. the other shooter used a 140gr nosler also....

Are you using the 120 or 140 gr. bullet?

i shoot the 120gr....when i shoot it. killed a deer er two with it.....n been huntin with the 35rem contender since. the 120 n h4895 really shoots! makes the factory 15" sing like a custom tube. ;D
i have a bunch of 154gr sst i picked up reasonable. just havn't got a final load with it yet. varget may be another one to try. some report success.

i shot a few boxes of factory green/yellow box rem 120 n 140's. they shot fair, but not as good as the handloads.

We have gone up to 42.0 grains with the 120NBT, but this was in a tight tolerance chamber in a XP-100.
40.0 grains was the cats meow with the 140 NBT

Thanks XP.  I found a box of the Hornady single shot pistol 120 gr. bullets that I had so I'll be working with those for now.  I guess hornady no longer offers them since I can't find any listed any place. ???

I have 7-08 , rifle and encore pistol.  Both like Varget as a poweder.  My son's have 243's, they like varget too.  Try some loads with varget if you have some.

Steve, thanks for the reply.  I don't have any Varget on hand.  If I don't come up with a load with one of the powders I do have I'll give it a try.  Who makes it?

Hogden, it seems taylor made for the 308 family of cartidges.  I hope you find a good load with the powders you have, buying powder is expensive these days.  7-08 has become my favorite cartridge over the years, good luck!!  BTW I like the Nosler Ballistic Tip 140 gr. in mine.
