They signed up knowing that the US military gave no exceptions to the military dress or hair cuts. so i am against these PC rule changes to accomodate.

now if we had them in units dedicated expessly to them and their kind..such as the GURKAS...i would have no problem with it. the Gurkas are legendary in the ferocious nature of their soldiers. the dress made no difference in their willingness to fight. As a matter of fact it might be in the interest of the military to establish such units and let them prove their honor and their will to fight for the United States.

just like we did with the 442nd in WWII. The Jap americans earned more honors and decorations than any all white american units. they in fact were so determined to "PROVE" they were loyal americans that they earned a reputation that is respected by all american combat soldiers today. no one can question their love for this nation nor fail to recognize the exceptional heroism of all the men in that unit.

This has been done in the Canadian Forces, and RCMP for years for members of the Sikh faith.
 Sikhs don't even have to wear mandatory motorcycle helmets because they won't fit over their turbans.

He is a Doctor he will never see combat.

Glad I retired when I did.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

This PC crap is putting our soldiers in danger. It makes me sick, after the Ft. Hood shootings, we can  see the danger of PC.

Gosh, I'm shocked! ::)
It is just nothing more, than the further dismantleing of our country. Everyone is NOT THE SAME, when it comes to Americans. Some are treated much differently. The minority rules.

It would be hell not knowing whether the shooting is coming from in front of you or behind you...

My wake-up was when I started bidding for Gov't business and found myself classified at the bottom of the page after they'd already run thru the list of those given preferential treatment.

When I arrived in Canada 30+ years ago and applied for a job with the Govt( blue collar) I was told that regardless of my entrance test score my name would be put below the worst score of any Canadian citizen. I accepted this as  being a right thing. Today I would have been placed on top of everybody. ::)

I have been thinking about this since this thread was first posted. I have come to the conclusion that "the Army has not relaxed it's grooming standards" but, instead has ACCOMODATED ISLAM, and CONFORMED WITH ISLAMIC STANDARDS. Am I wrong here?

No, you're not wrong Dee. I think your statement is accurate. I wonder though, if the soldier had been a raw recruit, infantry man, rather than a Doctor, if the decision would have been different. I noticed from the article that the decision only applies to that particular base and it doesn't "constitute a blanket accommodation for any other individual." From what I understand, all branches of the military are desperate for professionals like Doctors and Engineers because the military can't compete with the private sector in terms of salary and other compensation. Maybe this one simply comes down to needing the guy so badly that they accommodated him.

I personally believe that when this little "deal with the devil" gets out, your gonna see a discrimination suit, or threat of one, and it's gonna spread throughout the military. That's my take on it, any way.
Our foundation is crumbling under the weight of liberalism, and political correctness. We "collectively" will not fight to save our heritage, and way of life. All that seems to be unwilling to change are a few old geezers such as myself, and "few youngsters" still spoiling for a fight hoping to save the old ways they were taught, and what's right. Too few I think. :-\

Conscription would solve the manpower situation. It wouldn't be Uncle Same wants you, It would be Uncle Sam will grab your butt as needed ;D
