You mentioned an easy open frame so you're talking a compleat gun. Check to see if the barrel is tight on the frame, ( doesn,t wiggle sideways or up and down when closed), and that the chamber and lands are ok. If everything looks good then go ahead and get it. Get rid of the cheep sight and get a good one you like.
45 Win Mag loads are still fore sale in some stores but few and far between. The brass is available mail order. You can also use 45ACP loads in it for light loads.
Get a set of good dies, carbide is best, that will load 45 ACP/AR/Win Mag and start having fun developing loads. Some of the hard cast leads are amazing. The Win Mag will produce power levels close to a 454 and even at the lightest side of a 45/70. You can use light loads for plinking cans or rats or load it up for bear.
If it doesn't have them I would put Pachmayer Decelerator grips on it and shorten the barrel to 12 inches for easier handeling. This should still let you take deer out to 150 or 175 yards. Good luck and have fun on your adventure.
